Athletics Job Summary The Assistant Basketball Coach plays a key role in developing student-athletes both on and off the court. Working closely with the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach assists with planning and conducting practice sessions, teaching individual and team skills, managing game situations, and promoting a positive, disciplined team culture aligned with the school's academic and athletic mission. Key Responsibilities 1. On-Court Coaching & Player Development Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and leading daily practice sessions. Instruct student-athletes in fundamental skills, team offensive and defensive concepts, and game strategies. Provide constructive feedback and individual instruction to foster athlete growth and confidence. Assist with game preparation, scouting opponents, and making tactical adjustments during games. 2. Program & Student Mentorship Serve as a positive role model, emphasizing sportsmanship, leadership, academic success, and personal responsibility. Monitor student-athletes' academic progress, attendance, and adherence to team and school behavioral standards. Support a supportive, inclusive, and competitive team culture. 3. Operations & Administrative Support Help manage team equipment, uniforms, and facility preparation before and after practices/games. Assist with supervision of student-athletes in locker rooms, during travel, and at all team events. Attends all practices, regular season games, tournaments, and team meetings. Assist in communication with parents, school administrators, and opponents as directed by the Head Coach. 4. Safety & Compliance Ensure student-athlete safety during all athletic activities and maintain up-to-date knowledge of emergency procedures. Adhere to all league, district, and state athletic association rules and regulations. Report any injuries promptly to the athletic trainer and complete required incident forms.
