Assistant Wrestling Coach Part-Time Umpqua Community College is seeking an Assistant Wrestling Coach to help develop student-athletes both on and off the mat. Working alongside the Head Coach and Athletic Department, this position plays an important role in developing wrestling skills, preparing athletes for competition, supporting academic success, and creating a culture built on discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, and accountability. Recruiting:

Be familiar with all recruiting guidelines and allowable recruiting geographical areas. Know the allowable expense limits for recruits. Ensure that all recruits are made aware of all the expenses involved in attending UCC, including the cost of living in the community. The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) encourages coaches to utilize ethical standards when recruiting.

Eligibility:

Work with the appropriate institutional personnel to track academic progress for athletes and make sure you are aware of their academic progress.

Schedules and Travel:

Work with the athletic department on scheduling all athletic events and abiding by league schedules set up by the region commissioner. Be aware of all travel arrangements. Transport teams to event, ensure adequate supervision and assume responsibility for the conduct of the players while on all road trips. Make sure an institutional representative accompanies the team at all times. Meet all scheduled obligations and work with athletic administration for any schedule or time changes. Responsible for reporting team scores to the NJCAA regional office after a home contest or an away contest in which the opponent is not an NJCAA member college. Competition:

Be alert to and protect athletes from unsafe conditions related to facility and equipment. Be aware of general rules and regulations concerning practices - what constitutes a practice, start and end dates, and supervision. Be responsible for teaching physical conditioning relative to your sport. Be responsible for teaching and coaching the fundamentals for your sport. Be familiar with all NJCAA rules and regulations, including sport-specific rules. This includes season dates, travel squad size, pre-game regulations, protests, home team responsibilities, scrimmage rules, conference tournament schedule, rules, etc.

Miscellaneous Duties:

Ensure all fundraising is compliant with the NJCAA regulations and UCC policies. Understand penalties for all flagrant acts committed by athletes and make athletes aware of such penalties. Be an accommodating and respectful host to visiting teams, coaches and officials. Work with athletes and four-year college personnel to enhance the transfer process. Help prepare, recommend, and work within your college budget. Responsible for all equipment and uniforms. Any other responsibilities as designated by the Director of Athletics or Head Coach.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of NJCAA Codes. Knowledge of UCC student policies and the NJCAA's drug, alcohol and tobacco use policy. High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in the sport as a player and/or coach. Fulfill all the minimum requirements for community college coaching certification. Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
