Job Summary https://www.merion-mercy.com/careers We are seeking an energetic and dedicated Varsity Assistant/JV Head Coach to inspire and develop our student-athletes across multiple sports programs. This paid position offers a fantastic opportunity to lead, mentor, and coach young athletes, fostering teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for sports, strong leadership skills, and experience working with children and students to help elevate our athletic teams to new heights. Your role will be vital in creating a positive, motivating environment that encourages growth both on and off the field. Duties Assist in planning and executing practice sessions, game strategies, and team drills for varsity and junior varsity teams. Provide coaching instruction across various sports including soccer, basketball, cheerleading, climbing, martial arts (such as karate, judo), and swimming. Support team leadership by motivating athletes, managing behavior, and promoting sportsmanship during practices and competitions. Collaborate with head coaches to develop training programs that incorporate sport-specific skills and physical education principles. Communicate regularly with student-athletes, parents, and school staff regarding team progress, schedules, and performance feedback. Ensure safety protocols are followed by operating AED (Automated External Defibrillator) devices, administering first aid or CPR when necessary. Maintain a positive environment that emphasizes teamwork, discipline, health club standards, and child development through sports. Experience Previous coaching experience in sports such as soccer, basketball, cheerleading or martial arts is highly preferred. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children and students in a school or community setting. Lifeguard experience or swimming background is a plus for aquatic program involvement. Knowledge of behavior management techniques to foster respectful and productive team environments. Experience teaching physical education or leading sports-specific training instruction is advantageous. Strong communication skills for client (student-athlete) engagement and parent interactions. Certification in first aid and CPR is required; AED operation knowledge is essential. Background in sports team leadership or health club/gym experience will support your success in this role.
