Job Description
The Middle School Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in providing leadership, supervision, and organization for the middle school 8th grade Football program, Fall season. In coordination with the Head Coach, the assistant helps ensure a competitive and safe environment by implementing instructional terminology and fundamental skill development that aligns with the broader district program.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Demonstrated coaching experience; previous experience at the middle school or high school level is preferred.
Deep knowledge of sport-specific strategy, player development, and competition preparation.
Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License required.
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be cooperative, congenial, and service-oriented.
Ability to work as a coordinator and a member of a team while communicating effectively.
Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions and work under periods of stress.
Ability to recognize areas of concern (player safety, team dynamics) and propose appropriate solutions.
Demonstrates effective field/classroom management skills and possesses conflict mediation skills.
Knowledge of budgets and ability to monitor budget processes.
Strong organizational, strategic planning, and pro-social collaboration skills.
Ability to be flexible, self-directed, and work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborates with the coaching staff to utilize consistent instructional terminology and coaching philosophies.
Provides direct instruction in Middle school Football fundamentals and player development to middle school student-athletes.
Assists with the oversight of practices, competitions, and the scheduling of the middle school program.
Advises student-athletes on academic standards and fosters an inclusive environment for diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
Maintains familiarity with PIAA and District eligibility requirements and follows modern safety protocols, including concussion management.
Assists with identifying equipment needs, proper fitting of protective gear, and monitoring equipment expenditures.
Aids in designing practice plans and utilizes digital video analysis software for film review.
Acts as a point of contact for parents/guardians, maintaining transparent communication regarding expectations.
Additional duties as assigned.
