Job Description
The primary responsibility of this position is to instruct and develop flag football student-athletes in a manner that supports the university's academic mission. The Head Coach is responsible for providing instruction, skill development, and leadership for the flag football program while organizing team operations, recruiting qualified student-athletes, and ensuring compliance with university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. This position is classified as exempt under FLSA regulations. The respective head coach is expected to recruit a class for Fall 2027 enrollment. The team will compete at the club level during the Spring of 2027, before moving to varsity for the Spring 2028 season. Instruct, develop, and mentor student-athletes through effective coaching, skill development, practice planning, and competition while supporting the University's educational mission. Design and implement organized practices, training programs, and competitive game strategies that promote individual and team success. Recruit, evaluate, and retain qualified student-athletes who are academically and athletically aligned with the University's mission and program goals. Foster a positive team culture by promoting sportsmanship, leadership, accountability, inclusion, and student-athlete well-being. Partner with athletic administration, faculty, and campus stakeholders to support student-athlete academic achievement, eligibility, retention, and graduation. Develop and manage the program schedule, including varsity and competitive club contests, and oversee team travel, equipment, and supplies. Administer the program operating budget and support fundraising, alumni engagement, promotional activities, and community outreach initiatives. Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches and other assigned staff while ensuring compliance with university, conference, and NCAA policies and procedures. Maintain compliance with all NCAA Division III, conference, and University rules, regulations, and policies. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with athletics staff and campus partners to enhance the student-athlete experience and support the success of the program. Education Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. Experience Minimum of two years of flag football and/or football coaching and recruiting experience required. Prior Head Coach experience is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Demonstrated commitment to providing a positive, development-focused student-athlete experience consistent with the University's educational mission. Thorough knowledge of flag football and NCAA Division III rules and regulations. Ability to effectively instruct, develop, mentor, and motivate student-athletes while fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, accountability, and personal growth. Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, emotional intelligence, and leadership. Strong recruiting, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage prospective student-athletes, current student-athletes, alumni, and campus partners. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work independently, establish priorities, manage multiple responsibilities, and adapt to changing demands while contributing effectively as a collaborative team member. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Self-motivated with the initiative to effectively manage program responsibilities. Proficiency with social media and other communication platforms to support recruiting, engagement, and program promotion. Ability to assess the developmental needs of student-athletes and provide effective instruction, coaching, mentorship, and constructive feedback to support continuous improvement. Additional Requirements This role is identified as one that includes significant interaction with students and/or campus activities, and/or has oversight for disciplinary procedures. Therefore, you are considered a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and required to report any Clery Act crime disclosed to you and remain compliant with annual CSA training requirements. This position has been designated as requiring additional screening based on the nature of the position and its interactions, responsibilities, or access. As such, the incumbent is required to successfully complete and maintain all background checks, certifications, and/or clearances required for the position in accordance with university procedures and applicable laws. Physical Demand The position requires the ability to actively instruct and supervise practices, training sessions, and athletic competitions. Duties require standing, walking, and moving continuously for extended periods, as well as the ability to demonstrate athletic skills and techniques. The position requires frequent bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and lifting equipment. Regular movement throughout campus and travel to practices, competitions, recruiting events, and other program-related activities is required. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions.
