Job Description

This position centers on coaching student-athletes who require accountability and mentorship — not traditional instruction. You won't be preparing lesson plans, assigning grades, or delivering academic content. Instead, you'll focus on the core of effective coaching: fostering trust, maintaining accountability, and helping students exceed their own expectations. Texas Sports Academy operates a virtual program in which student-athletes progress through self-directed academic applications while simultaneously building life skills and continuing their athletic development. Your cohort will participate in weekly virtual 1:1 and small-group sessions led by you. You'll help them set priorities, maintain accountability, and identify disengagement early. The effectiveness of your sessions depends directly on your ability to build trust and establish presence — the content itself is secondary. Your work consists of three core components: facilitating coaching sessions that maintain student momentum, intervening proactively when progress metrics reveal gaps, and delivering structured virtual workshops focused on mindset and life skills. This is a fully remote position based in Texas, requiring quarterly in-person attendance at events held in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio. If you have experience coaching or mentoring students or athletes and found the most rewarding moments came from witnessing someone surpass their perceived limitations, we encourage you to apply. What you will be doing Facilitating virtual 1:1 and small-group coaching sessions to help student-athletes establish priorities, sustain accountability, and maintain high levels of engagement Reviewing progress data from learning platforms to detect disengagement or performance gaps before they escalate Taking direct action when a student begins to fall behind — modifying your coaching approach, restoring momentum, and guiding them back on track Delivering structured virtual workshops centered on mindset, life skills, and personal growth, with active student participation as the primary success indicator Developing trust with each student-athlete so that accountability discussions feel collaborative and earned rather than top-down or punitive What you will NOT be doing Teaching academic content or delivering curriculum — students advance through self-directed apps; your role is to drive engagement and ensure follow-through Creating lesson plans, grading assignments, or administering course structures Waiting for students to report issues — you will monitor data and intervene proactively Conducting passive sessions where students attend but remain disengaged Key Responsibilities Maintain engagement, academic progress, and life skills development among virtual student-athletes, equipping them with the tools they need to succeed beyond the classroom. Candidate Requirements You have coaching or mentoring experience with students or athletes — either paid or volunteer You have facilitated group sessions for students or athletes for a minimum of 6 months You have worked in a role requiring goal-setting and outcome tracking — and can provide measurable results (such as completion rates, performance improvements, or comparable metrics) You are proficient in running virtual sessions via Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams, and have experience using spreadsheets, LMS platforms, or similar tools to monitor participant progress You have used an AI tool — Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Perplexity, or similar — at least once and can describe the use case You are based in Texas and able to attend one in-person event per quarter in Austin, Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio You are authorized to work in the US without requiring visa sponsorship Nice to have Familiarity with learning management systems (Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, or similar) or tools used to track academic progress Ability to tailor your coaching style to varied motivation profiles — recognizing when to challenge, when to ease pressure, and when to simply listen This position is also known as: Student Success Coach Student-Athlete Coach Mental Performance Coach Performance Coach
