Job Description

Middle School Basketball CoachPosition Overview First Baptist Academy, serving students Infants through Eighth Grade, is seeking a part-time Middle School Basketball Coach to lead and develop our basketball program. This position reports directly to the Athletic Director and is responsible for fostering athletic growth, character development, and a positive team culture rooted in Christian values. The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching the game of basketball, mentoring young athletes, and helping build a program that emphasizes excellence, sportsmanship, and faith. Mission Statement Our mission is to equip students with the Truth of God's Word while developing their character, intellect, and potential to Explore, Create, Challenge, and Lead. Key Responsibilities Coach and supervise middle school student-athletes during practices and competitions Availability for coaching approximately between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM on school days Season duration: Late October through January Teach fundamental basketball skills and age-appropriate strategies Develop practice plans that promote skill development, teamwork, and player confidence Create a positive, encouraging, and Christ-centered team culture Model Christian character and sportsmanship in all interactions Build meaningful relationships with student-athletes and families Communicate effectively with players, parents, coaching staff, and administration Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants Assist with program growth, equipment management, and game-day operations Support the overall mission and vision of First Baptist Academy Athletics Desired Characteristics Positive coaching style Desire to build character and leadership in young athletes Passion for teaching and developing beginner and experienced players alike Exceptional communication and organizational skills Ability to motivate, encourage, and mentor students Collaborative team player who works well with others Commitment to fostering a Christ-centered athletic experience Required Qualifications CPR Certified (or willingness to obtain certification) Previous playing and/or coaching experience in basketball Knowledge of basketball rules, fundamentals, and skill development Ability to work effectively with middle school-aged students Successful completion of background screening Preferred Qualifications Previous experience coaching youth or middle school athletes Experience building or growing an athletic program Strong understanding of athlete development and positive coaching practices
