March 2026 POSITION SUMMARY La Joya ISD seeks a dependable and committed Assistant Swimming Coach to support the Head Swimming Coach in the organization, supervision, and development of the swimming program at Juarez-Lincoln High School. This position is intended for a current staff member who will assist with coaching responsibilities while supporting the academic, athletic, and personal growth of student-athletes. The Assistant Swimming Coach will help teach swimming fundamentals, promote safety, assist with practices and meets, and support the overall vision and expectations established by the Head Coach, campus administration, and La Joya ISD Athletic Department.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the Head Swimming Coach in implementing the Juarez-Lincoln High School swimming program. Assist with daily practices, workouts, conditioning, and skill development. Help teach swimming fundamentals, including stroke technique, starts, turns, finishes, breathing, pacing, endurance, and race strategy. Support student-athlete development in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, relays, and individual medley events. Assist with warm-ups, cool-downs, dryland training, stretching, and recovery routines. Help monitor student-athlete attendance, effort, behavior, academic progress, and UIL eligibility. Supervise student-athletes before, during, and after practices, meets, travel, and team activities. Assist with meet preparation, lane assignments, timing, event entries, equipment, and team organization. Reinforce program expectations established by the Head Swimming Coach. Promote discipline, teamwork, accountability, sportsmanship, and pride in Juarez-Lincoln High School and La Joya ISD. Maintain positive and professional communication with students, parents, staff, and coaches. Support campus and district athletic department expectations.SWIMMING PROGRAM SUPPORT
Assist in developing proper swimming technique and water safety habits. Help student-athletes improve endurance, speed, stroke efficiency, and race preparation. Support beginner and developing swimmers through patient instruction and encouragement. Reinforce safe pool behavior and proper use of swimming equipment. Assist with equipment management, including kickboards, pull buoys, lane ropes, stopwatches, caps, goggles, and team supplies. Support team-building activities and student leadership within the program. Encourage participation, commitment, and year-round athletic development when applicable.COMPLIANCE AND SAFETY
Maintain current CPR, AED, First Aid, and UIL-required certifications. Follow all UIL, TEA, district, campus, and athletic department policies. Ensure student-athletes are supervised at all times during practices, meets, and travel. Monitor pool safety, hydration, weather conditions when applicable, and student well-being. Report injuries, incidents, safety concerns, or discipline issues to the Head Coach and Athletic Coordinator in a timely manner. Follow emergency action procedures and district safety expectations. Maintain professional boundaries with student-athletes at all times.QUALIFICATIONS
Current La Joya ISD employee preferred. Valid Texas Teaching Certificate or appropriate employment status with the district. Knowledge of swimming fundamentals preferred. Coaching experience preferred but not required. Ability to work under the direction of the Head Swimming Coach. Strong communication, organization, and supervision skills. Commitment to student safety, academic success, and athletic development.WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands Maintain emotional control under stress. Communicate effectively with students, parents, coaches, and staff. Follow directions and support the Head Coach's program expectations. Physical Demands Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and movement during practices and meets. Ability to assist with swimming drills, dryland activities, and equipment setup. Exposure to pool environments, humidity, wet surfaces, and athletic facilities. Extended hours including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, meets, and travel.POSITION WORKING DAYS
