Faculty 9 Job Description The Department of Communication Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning in August 2027. The teaching load is eight courses per academic year (4/4). We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching across a range of communication and public relations courses. Primary teaching responsibilities include a sequence of Public Relations courses, such as Introduction to Public Relations, Public Relations Principles, Public Relations Methods, and Public Relations Campaigns, as well as related courses including Sports Public Relations and Digital Media. Additional teaching opportunities may include courses in Advertising, Graphic Design, Social Media, Ethics and Leadership, Media Writing, Crisis Communication and Management, and Special Event Planning, depending on the successful candidate's expertise and experience. Courses are offered in both in-person and online formats. The department is home to an award-winning chapter of
PRCA/PRSSA
at UAB. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience advising successful student organizations or demonstrated interest in mentoring and supporting student professional development through engagement with the chapter.
