Full-time, Assistant Professor of Sociology Position Overview:

Talladega College invites applications for a Assistant Professor of Sociology to join the Department of Social Sciences. This is a full-time appointment with the possibility of renewal, depending on departmental needs and funding. The Assistant Professor of Sociology will be responsible for teaching undergraduate sociology courses, contributing to curriculum development, and engaging in academic service to the College. The successful candidate will be an experienced educator with a strong commitment to teaching, student success, research, and fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Specific Qualifications:

Education :

A Ph.D. in Sociology or a closely related field is required (ABD candidates who are close to completion will also be considered).

Experience :

A demonstrated record of effective teaching at the undergraduate level. Experience in sociological research , with a clear area of specialization (e.g., social inequality, race and ethnicity, criminology, social theory, etc.). A commitment to inclusive pedagogy and teaching strategies that support diverse learners.

Other Requirements :

Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to develop and teach undergraduate courses in sociology and related areas. Demonstrated ability to engage students in and outside of the classroom, advising students, and supporting their academic and professional development

Preferred Qualifications:

Research Focus :

A robust research agenda in a specialized area of sociology that aligns with the department's needs. Experience in online or hybrid course delivery is a plus. Ability to develop new sociology courses that respond to evolving trends and students' interests. A background in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching and mentoring. Experience in service learning and community engagement initiatives related to sociology.
