Description of Position:

The Computer Science Department at Los Medanos College is seeking a full-time faculty member to support a growing and evolving program that prepares students for transfer and careers in software development, information technology, and related fields. This position will primarily focus on teaching programming and foundational computer science courses, including but not limited to introductory and intermediate programming (e.g., C++, Python, or Java), systems concepts, and applied computing courses. The successful candidate will teach multiple courses across the Computer Science curriculum, with opportunities to contribute to both established and newly developed courses. In addition to instruction, the faculty member will play a key role in curriculum development, including updating course content to reflect current industry standards, integrating hands-on and project-based learning, and supporting the expansion of course offerings and modalities (e.g., online and hybrid formats). This position offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a program that serves a diverse student population with a wide range of educational goals. Faculty are expected to engage in student-centered teaching practices, provide mentorship and academic guidance, and participate in departmental and college-wide initiatives that support student success, equity, and inclusion.

Computer Science Duties and Responsibilities:

In addition to contractual duties, all full-time faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Part of the teaching assignment may be in the evening and/or online. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: 1. advancing equitable student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines; 2. participating in the assessment of student learning outcomes for courses and programs; developing and implementing student learning outcomes assessment processes for courses and programs; 3. collaborating in the development and revision of curriculum and in program review; 4. engaging in department program improvement initiatives; 5. participating in department, division, and college committees; 6. participating in professional development activities, both departmental and college-wide; 7. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter area and effective teaching/ learning strategies; 8. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics; 9. informing students of course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements; 10. preparing and grading class assignments and examinations and informing students of their academic progress; 11. maintaining attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submitting them according to published deadlines; 12. posting and holding sufficient and regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy; 13. participating in College's shared governance processes.

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:

Master's in computer science or computer engineering OR Bachelor's in either of the above AND Master's in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting or engineering OR Bachelor's in engineering AND Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration OR Bachelor's in mathematics AND Master's in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration OR Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND A master's degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems OR the equivalent. If you do not possess the required degrees, you must complete a master's degree equivalency form.) 2) Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.

Desirable Qualifications:

1. Demonstrated experience teaching programming courses (e.g., C++, Java, Python) at the community college or university level, including both introductory and intermediate levels. 2. Experience designing and updating curriculum to align with current industry standards, including integration of hands-on labs, real-world projects, and modern development tools.3. Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion through culturally responsive teaching practices and strategies that support the success of disproportionately impacted students.4. Experience with multiple instructional modalities, including online, hybrid, and in-person teaching, and use of learning management systems (e.g., Canvas).5. Industry experience or applied knowledge in areas such as software development, cybersecurity, data analysis, or cloud technologies.
