Job Description Department Summary The Department of Hospitality, Tourism & Event Management (HTEM) was established in 1992 as an interdisciplinary career preparation program. HTEM offers an innovative, technology-driven curriculum that pairs academic study with hands-on professional experience that students need to pursue successful and meaningful careers. HTEM at SJSU is ranked as the #1 Hospitality & Tourism Management Program in Northern California and top 6% among top universities worldwide by Shanghai Ranking, a.k.a. the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, which is one of the most influential and widely-recognized university rankings. Brief Description of Duties The HTEM Department is searching for part-time lecturers to teach undergraduate level courses related to hospitality, tourism and event management. Course materials, pedagogy, teaching strategies, and evaluation must address the needs of students. HTEM lectures are expected to participate in faculty meetings. Section will be based on the candidate's education background, professional experience, and teaching needs. Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity-including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation-through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement. Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS). All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e., asynchronous, synchronous, bichronous, in-person, or hybrid). Required Qualifications A master's degree in hospitality management, business administration, or related fields, or a bachelor's degree with at least 10 years of professional experience. Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience. Preferred Qualifications Professional experience to meet AACSB faculty qualification. Compensation Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience.
