Position Description The University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers to teach sections of College 1, a graduation requirement for all incoming first-year students. College 1 is a seminar course designed to help first-year students develop academic and civic proficiency while building a sense of belonging at their residential colleges. Students will develop proficiencies in critical thinking and communication skills through active and collaborative learning with peers. This course prepares students for success in all other UCSC courses. College 1 instructors typically meet with a seminar of 25-30 students two or three times per week and teach material from an established syllabus; assign and evaluate student work; meet with students in small groups; prepare grades, which may include narrative evaluations of student performance; hold weekly office hours; and carry out other typical instructional duties. Demonstrated record of working effectively with students from a wide range of social, cultural, and academic backgrounds. Demonstrated understanding of the barriers facing traditionally underrepresented groups in higher education.
