Job Description

The University of South Florida's (USF) Muma College of Business invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in the Vinik Sport and Entertainment Management Program within the School of Hospitality and Sport Management. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Sport Management or another related business discipline from an accredited university or expect to complete such a Ph.D. by Summer 2027. Professional work experience in a sport or entertainment business environment is also highly recommended. Applications are welcomed from all sport and entertainment business areas. Ideal candidates will target and publish in the most prestigious sport and/or business journals and demonstrate excellence in teaching. Candidates with experience and interest in teaching using innovative technology are encouraged to apply. This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position. The Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program (VSEM) ranks #2 in the world and #1 in Florida among sport and entertainment management programs. Students in this two-year Tampa-based graduate program earn both an MBA in Sport Business and an M.S. in Sport & Entertainment Management, while achieving nearly a 100% placement rate post-graduation. Undergraduate students may pursue a minor in sport business. VSEM enjoys strong partnerships with major sports and entertainment properties in the region, e.g., Tampa Bay Lightning, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Rays, Fanatics, and Seminole Hard Rock Casino. Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Sport Business/Management/Administration from an AACSB (or international equivalent) accredited institution or a Ph.D. in other related disciplines before the start of employment. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.
Primary Considerations:
Evidence of ability or potential to publish in top-level journals in sport and/or business. Evidence of superior teaching ability. Overall quality of the candidate as indicated by letters of reference and personal contacts.
Other Considerations:
Professional work experience in a Sport and/or Entertainment business environment. Evidence of ability to teach Sport and/or Entertainment Management related courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Evidence of teaching using innovative technology. Evidence of ability to make service contributions to the university and the profession. Evidence of partnering with sport and entertainment properties to provide students experiential-learning opportunities. Expectation that the candidate will be collegial. Reputation of program granting the candidate's degree. Reputation of program(s) where candidate might have been employed previously. Interest in applying for externally funded research. Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities. Responsible for academic advising and related activities. May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or Statewide committees.
