Founded in 1881, Spelman College is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Atlanta, GA. The oldest historically Black college for women in the United States, Spelman is a member of the Atlanta University Center Consortium and Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education. Position Description The Department of Education at Spelman College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2027 within the Elementary Education (PK-5 certification) track of the Educator Preparation Program, with a specialization in STEM Education. The successful candidate will prepare teacher candidates to design and lead integrated science, technology, engineering, and mathematics instruction in elementary classrooms, while contributing to the department's broader mission of preparing exceptional, equity-minded educators. This position combines undergraduate teaching, clinical supervision of teacher candidates, scholarly research, and service to the department, college, and profession. Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate courses in elementary STEM methods, mathematics and science education, and related courses in the Educator Preparation Program curriculum.

Supervise and mentor teacher candidates during field placements and student teaching, with particular attention to STEM instruction in PK-5 settings.

Maintain an active research and scholarship agenda in STEM education, elementary mathematics or science teaching and learning, or a closely related area.

Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of the Elementary Education program, including alignment with state certification and accreditation standards.

Participate in departmental, college, and professional service, including committee work and engagement with local school partners.

Cultivate partnerships with PK-5 schools and districts to support field placement sites and applied STEM education initiatives. Qualifications Earned doctorate (Ph. D. or Ed. D.) in Elementary Education, STEM Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a closely related field, conferred by the appointment start date.

Demonstrated expertise in STEM instruction, including mathematics and/or science education.

Evidence of, or strong potential for, high-quality teaching at the undergraduate level.

Evidence of, or strong potential for, scholarly research and publication.

Experience in PK-12 classroom teaching or equivalent clinical experience.
