Google Chrome, Safari Description This position will provide specialized care for patients with neurologic disease in the SIU Department of Neurology, and will be responsible for teaching the discipline to medical students and residents. This position will have responsibilities in administration, teaching, research and medical service as they pertain to the general mission of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and the specific needs of the Department of Neurology. Responsibilities shall include direct patient care, teaching and work rounds, lectures, protocol development and staff education.

• Examples of Duties Teaching 10% Presentation of lectures, seminars, conferences and rounds for residents and students (Years II, III and IV).

Participate in Neurology grand rounds (attend weekly, present periodically). Participate in the basic science and other didactic curricula for neurology residents. Conduct clinical (bedside and otherwise) teaching of neurology and other house staff and medical students during rounds on inpatient service at assigned hospital(s). Service (Patient Care) 80% Develop and maintain a professional practice in accordance with departmental policy and the University practice plan (SIU Healthcare). Provide 7 day on, 7 day off inpatient care through consultations and, when appropriate, principal care on the neurology inpatient service at assigned hospital(s). Administration 5% Serve on university, departmental and hospital committees as needed. Participate in scheduled meetings as a member of the hospital staff at St. John's Hospital, Springfield Memorial Hospital, Decatur Memorial Hospital and other partners as needed. Research 5% (Time devoted to research will be raised or lowered depending on a faculty member's productivity and career goals. Time in research can/will be moved to teaching or clinical service, accordingly.) Participate in clinical trials of new therapies for neurologic disease. Publish research in peer reviewed journals and in other suitable scientific media. Present at regional, national and international scientific meetings. Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations. Board certified or board eligible in Neurology. Licensed as a physician in the state of Illinois.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Board certified or board eligible in Vascular Neurology or Neurocritical Care. Board certified or board eligible in Neurophysiology. Supplemental Information The budgeted annual salary range is $220,000 to $242,000, representing the academic base salary only, which is funded through the University. The final academic base salary will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget considerations.
