Job Description

Valparaiso University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering ( https://www.valpo.edu/college-of-engineering/ ). Valparaiso University ("Valpo"), acommunity of learning grounded in the Lutheran tradition of scholarship, freedom, and faith, prepares students to lead and serve both churchand society. Located one hour southeast of Chicago on a 310-acre campus, Valpo is a comprehensive university with an enrollment ofapproximately 2,100 undergraduate and graduate students. Valpo is consistently recognized as one of the best private universities in theMidwest and has an increasingly diverse student body. Valparaiso University's undergraduate-only College of Engineering offersABET-accredited degrees in Civil Engineering. The College of Engineering at Valpo is currently ranked in the top 10% of Engineering Programs(non-doctoral) in the 2026 U.S. News and World Report rankings. Qualifications The successful candidate will beresponsible for teaching undergraduate courses, developing a research program that incorporates undergraduate students, and providingservice to the department and profession. Teaching responsibilities could include courses in structural engineering, introductory civilengineering courses, the civil engineering capstone design sequence, and general engineering courses. Candidates should have astrong commitment to teaching excellence and have the ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues. The candidate shallhave the legal authority to work in the USA, shall have completed a Ph. D. in civil engineering or a closely related discipline, and willhave obtained their professional engineering license prior to the conclusion of the tenure track period. Additionally, preference will begiven to candidates with previous teaching experience. Candidates should have a Ph. D. (ABD considered) by August 2027 in CivilEngineering with a focus on Structural Engineering, or a closely related field.
