Assistant Professor Tenure Information:
Tenure Track Department Summary:
The Department of Communication at Bridgewater State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Film and Video Arts Production beginning Fall 2027. The Department of Communication offers three majors: Film and Video Arts Production, Communication and Media Studies, and Public Relations. The department currently serves over three hundred undergraduate majors, including more than one hundred students enrolled in Film and Video Arts Production. We are a thoughtful, collegial department committed to preparing students to meaningfully engage with their communities and the wider world. Our students bring a wide range of experiences and perspectives to their creative work. As of Spring 2026, half of our FVAP majors are first-generation college students, 43% are commuters, and 30% come from low-income backgrounds. Additionally, 32.5% identify as women, 26.3% identify as students of color, and 17% identify as LGBTQIA+. Film and Video Arts Production is a growing major that combines technical training with a broad academic foundation in film and media. Students develop original work while building the creative confidence, technical skills, and collaborative practices needed to bring their visions to life. Our program offers foundational video production courses and specialized study in areas such as screenwriting, sound, editing, and cinematography. This is an exciting time to join us: we are undertaking a significant renovation of our production facilities while continuing to strengthen the major. We are looking for a colleague who will expand students' technical capabilities, contribute to the ongoing development of our curriculum and facilities, and help shape the program's future.
