NIH COBRE
Center for Cardiovascular Research in Biomechanics (CRiB) at the University of Nebraska Omaha invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position in cardiovascular science. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain nationally recognized, extramurally funded, independent research program within CRiB and foster collaborative partnerships, including with clinical partners at neighboring medical centers. Additional responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Cardiovascular Biomechanics and related fields, mentoring students and research personnel, and contributing to departmental, university, and professional service. The research statement should clearly describe how the candidate's work complements and enhances ongoing research within CRiB. Required Qualifications:
At the time of appointment, candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, Materials), Physiology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, or a closely related field, or an M.D. (or equivalent clinical doctorate) with substantial research training (e.g., physician-scientist track). Candidates should demonstrate a strong record of experimental research in cardiovascular science. Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to, robotics, sensors for cardiovascular monitoring; cardiovascular devices and biomaterials; cardiovascular pathophysiology; tissue and cellular biomechanics; bioreactor systems with translational applications; vascular biology and mechanobiology; hemodynamics and cardiovascular fluid mechanics; cardiovascular imaging and diagnostics; computational modeling integrated with experimental validation; regenerative medicine and tissue engineering; and translational or preclinical cardiovascular research. Candidates whose research complements or extends the Center for Cardiovascular Research in Biomechanics (CRiB)'s focus on cardiovascular biomechanics, materials, devices, and translational science are strongly encouraged to apply. Postdoctoral training (or equivalent research experience) and a demonstrated record of securing extramural funding are highly desirable.
Department of Biomechanics:
UNO's Department of Biomechanics is one of the few academic departments in the United States dedicated entirely to biomechanics. It offers undergraduate, master's, and Ph.D. degrees in Biomechanics and Biomechanics & Kinesiology. The Department has a strong research focus and is home to three major federally funded research centers: CRiB, MOVCENTR, and NE3D. More than half of its tenure-track and tenured faculty serve as Principal Investigators on major federal awards, including NIH R01 grants. Since its establishment in 2016, the Department has grown to 21 tenure-track and tenured faculty who have collectively secured more than $70 million in federal research funding. The Department is housed in the 53,000-square-foot Biomechanics Research Building, which provides shared laboratory, office, and collaborative space dedicated to translational biomedical research. An additional 20,000 square feet dedicated to cardiovascular research is currently under construction and is expected to be completed in early 2028. The building is located within two miles of both the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the Western Iowa-Nebraska Veterans Affairs Medical Center, providing exceptional access to clinical collaborators, patients, clinical data, and human tissues. Biomechanics faculty benefit from light teaching loads, shared access to an extensive range of research equipment, and opportunities to collaborate with a diverse community of students, scientists, and clinicians across the University of Nebraska system.
