Houghton University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in the School of Music at the assistant or associate level starting in August of the 2027-2028 academic year. Applicants for this position should exhibit a commitment to excellence and creativity in undergraduate teaching, a mature Christian faith, and an ability to integrate Christian faith into their teaching.
Job Title:
Assistant or Associate Professor of Music Education Compensation:
$45,000 - $55,000 annually, commensurate upon experience.
Teaching Responsibilities:
Music Education Methods Courses Psychology of Music Observe and Evaluate Student Teachers and Student Teaching Portfolios Other Music Education Courses as needed Online Graduate Courses in Music Education as needed Other music courses as needed
Coordinator Responsibilities:
Coordinate with Education Faculty to guide music education students' matriculation in their degree. Work with other music faculty and education faculty to coordinate practicum placements and hours for music education students Advise music education students Help students form respectful attitudes and interactions with people who differ in abilities, attitudes, and cultural experience Help students develop sensitivity to factors that affect our assessment of others. Coordinate and advise student activities with our collegiate chapter of
NAfME Qualifications:
Doctorate in Music Education Required At least 8 years elementary or secondary classroom experience Experience teaching online Possess a personal Christian faith that is reflected in one's professional and personal life with a sincere respect for and an agreement to live in harmony with the doctrines and positions of The Wesleyan Church, A Vision for our Common Life, and Behavioral Expectations of the University.
