Job Description

The School of Inclusive Teacher Education invites applications for a tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor in Reading to start August 2027. Applicants should have experience with evidence-based literacy instruction and expertise in areas such as reading disabilities and dyslexia, assessment, intervention, and professional development. In addition to teaching and service responsibilities, this position will also support BGSU's Structured Literacy Center through research activities including publication and grant-writing. This is a nine-month appointment with the option to teach in the summer for extra compensation. Information about Program and College The School of Inclusive Teacher Education supports the University's initial teacher licensure programs which span grades PreK-12 and graduate programs in Special Education, Reading, and Curriculum and Teaching. The Graduate Reading programs lead to an Ohio K-12 reading endorsement and a Master of Education degree. The mission of the School of Inclusive Teacher Education is to build and sustain a dynamic, collaborative community of highly skilled teachers for all levels of education, thereby increasing graduates' options and those of their students for lives as independent, productive, and contributing citizens. The School is committed to rigorous scholarship, innovative teaching and learning, and civic and professional engagement that places high value on the diversity of individuals and communities in a global society. There are approximately 2000 undergraduate students and more than 500 graduate students in seven initial licensure programs and four graduate programs, with numerous endorsements and certificates. These programs are guided by nearly fifty full-time faculty and staff. Teach up to three courses per semester in the Graduate Reading Programs.
Courses may include:
Diverse Reader Profiles/MTSS, Phonics Intervention, Comprehension/Vocabulary Intervention, Writing Intervention, Seminar in Literacy Research, and Literacy Coaching. Courses may be taught in-person or online (asynchronous) and may include evenings. 2. Maintain a strong research agenda in support of BGSU's Structured Literacy Center that leads to successful publication, external presentations, community engagement, and ongoing external funding for the Center. 3. Collaborate in Structured Literacy Center and program development and participate in student advising. 4. Contribute and provide leadership to the school, college, university, and the profession through service activities. 1. Earned doctorate in Reading or Literacy, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field with a focus on reading or literacy. 2. Demonstrated evidence of scholarly effectiveness, including research investigations, publications, presentations at professional conferences, and/or grant writing. 3. A minimum of two years professional experience teaching reading (e.g., classroom teacher, special education teacher, reading specialist, or other related service provider in educational settings) or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications 1. Attained tenure and promotion to the Associate professor rank at a comparable institution. 2. Certification (or the ability to obtain certification) in Structured Literacy approach or Ohio Department of Education and Workforce approved program. 3. Experience teaching at the college level in multiple modalities (e.g., in-person, online). 4. Experience obtaining external funding and/or managing externally funded projects. 5. Experience leading a team, program, or group research project. Application Materials Required
