November 16, 2026 Position Description The Department of Cell & Systems Biology in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure-stream position in Systems Neurophysiology at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests address fundamental questions in Systems Neurophysiology and complement existing departmental strengths in neuroscience, genomics, cell and developmental biology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics.
Qualifications Candidates must:
Hold a PhD in Biology or a related field by the time of appointment. Demonstrate excellence in research and teaching in Systems Neurophysiology. Show evidence of research excellence through: Publications in leading peer-reviewed journals. Forthcoming publications meeting high international standards. A strong research statement. Presentations at major conferences. Awards and scholarly recognition. Strong reference letters. Evidence of teaching excellence may include: Teaching accomplishments and experience. A comprehensive teaching dossier. Strong letters of reference. Experience as a teaching assistant or course instructor. Leadership of workshops or seminars. Student mentorship. High-quality conference presentations or posters.
Responsibilities The successful candidate will:
Conduct innovative and independent research. Establish and maintain an outstanding, competitive, externally funded research program. Participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Contribute to departmental, university, and professional service activities.
Compensation Salary Range:
CAD $125,000 - $175,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Negotiations beyond this range may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
