Assistant Professor of Sport Management
Job Description
The Department of Kinesiology atSHSU invites applications for a nine month, full-time, tenure-track,AssistantProfessor of Sport Management with the possibility of summer employment basedon student need and enrollment (summer is notguaranteed). Currently, thedepartment offers a hybrid (face-to-face and online) 36-hour Master of Sciencedegree program with both thesisand practicum options along with a newlylaunched Bachelor of Science in Sport Management degree. The duties andresponsibilities of this position include:
Teaching:
teaching assignments may include undergraduate(taughtat main campus in Huntsville, TX) and graduate (taught in the eveningsat The Woodlands Center located in The Woodlands, TX) coursework(bothface-to-face and online).
Research:
maintaining an active research agenda in SportManagement and mentoringundergraduate and graduate students in research andprofessional development.
Service:
performing university andprofessional service andcontributing to ongoing program evaluation and improvement in the undergraduateand graduate programs within thedepartment.
Requirements:
An earned doctorate from an accredited institution in SportManagement/Administration orrelated discipline is required (ABD candidatesconsidered). ABD candidates must have doctoral degree conferred by start date. Teaching experience in sport management/administration. Ademonstrated record of research and scholarship in the field. Sport industrywork experience. An established network in the sport industry. With a population of roughly40,000 (excluding SHSU),Huntsville offers the simplicity of small-town life andeasy access to surrounding larger cities including Conroe ,where both theCollege ofOsteopathic Medicine and the new Health Professions Buildings (HPB)are located (the HPB houses the Masters in Physician Assistant Studies,MSAT,MS in Dietetics, and the proposed Doctor in Physical Therapy), The Woodlands,where the School of Nursing and The Woodlands Center(TWC) is located, andBryan/College Station. Full of Texas history and charm, this county seat ishome to multiple museums, annualfestivities, antique stores, year-roundoutdoor activities, vineyards, golf courses, lakes, and a beautiful state park.
In a little over anhour after leaving the main campus, you can arrive indowntown Houston. Houston has a variety of amenities to offer and is consideredone ofthe best "foodie" cities. This city also provides access to largeentertainment venues and professional sporting events. If you prefer lifeonthe water, Lake Conroe and Lake Livingston are a short commute, and GalvestonIsland and the Gulf coast are a two-hour drive fromHuntsville.
