SCHEDULE

This is a nine-month position with the possibility of summer teaching. Classes and other responsibilities are conducted primarily on weekdays but could include some evening classes and independent studies. Attendance is required at some evening and weekend events.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

LeTourneau University , a vibrant and growing interdenominational, evangelical Christian university, known for high-quality STEM programs that attract students of outstanding academic ability, invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of History, Department of Humanities & Social Sciences . This is a tenure-track position, with rank negotiable based on experience. This faculty member will play a central role in leading and developing the University's History major while also engaging students across a wide array of science & technical disciplines. This individual will spearhead efforts to integrate historical knowledge with communication and analytical skill development for students majoring in fields such as engineering, aviation, and computer science.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Teach a full-time load of courses in History, including preparation of course materials and assessments. Teach a wide variety of courses across the curriculum from freshman to senior level with a four course (12 hour) load per Fall and Spring semester typically consisting of three lower-level and one upper-level course per semester. Offer engaging introductory courses that build foundational historical knowledge and essential communication and analytical skills. Teach a range of courses that may include, depending on expertise and program needs, foundational survey courses in US and Western history. Develop upper-level courses that deepen students' understanding of historical themes and align with their academic and vocational interests. Provide strategic leadership in re-envisioning the role of the humanities within a Christian Polytechnic context. Participate actively in the university learning community by serving on department, school, and/or university committees and special service assignments. Participate in student advising, success, and retention programs. Commitment to academic scholarship in the field of expertise.

QUALIFICATIONS

LeTourneau University seeks an individual with an enthusiastic and contagious Christian faith who is committed to teaching, research, and leadership at a small, dynamic Christian University where the integration of faith and academic excellence is paramount. The candidate must be in genuine agreement with the University's Statement of Faith and Community Covenant for life and work at LeTourneau. An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in History, from an accredited university or in a closely related field. Candidates who are ABD with an estimated conferral date before May 2028 may be considered. Preferred specialization in U.S. History, though strong candidates in related fields will be considered. Demonstrated teaching competency Interpersonal skills to effectively and professionally interact with students, colleagues, and administrators in a university learning community The successful candidate will be able to think creatively and critically about the essential role of the humanities (and writing, in particular) within the "Christian Polytechnic University" mission and provide leadership for efforts to fully infuse the humanities within the learning environment and campus culture of LeTourneau University. This includes developing communication and analytical skills in students majoring in technical fields such as engineering, aviation, computer science, etc.
