The Austin College Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology to begin August 2027. We seek a broadly trained biologist who will contribute to our ecology and evolutionary biology curriculum. Teaching responsibilities include the first semester of our freshman sequence in biology:

Evolution, Behavior, and Ecology, and upper-level courses that align with the individual's interests and departmental needs. Candidates able to offer biology courses that contribute to college interdisciplinary programs (e.g. Environmental Studies) are particularly attractive. The standard teaching load is 12 contact hours per semester (typically two courses, each including a lecture and accompanying lab) plus a January Term course every other year. While excellence in teaching is top priority, faculty also engage undergraduates in research through coursework and/or research projects. Austin College provides startup funds, and additional internal funding is available for mentoring summer research students. The successful candidate will have earned a PhD by August 2027, demonstrate a strong commitment to innovative teaching in a liberal arts environment, and foster participation from a diverse student body.
