The Department of Accounting, Economics, Finance, and Information Systems (AEFI) in the College of Business and Economics at Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Information Systems and Cyber Security (F0272) beginning in August 2027. For qualified candidates, an earlier start date of January 2027 may be possible. The AACSB-accredited College of Business and Economics offers an undergraduate degree in Business Administration with concentrations in seven disciplines, including Information Systems and Cyber Security, as well as a fully online Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) program. The newly launched MSIT program has three tracks in IT Project Management, Cyber Security, and Software Development. The College also houses an established Center for Cyber Security. The successful candidate will have demonstrated emphasis in teaching and research related to information systems, cybersecurity, and technology concepts. Ideally, they will also have the ability to teach a variety of subjects at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including general cybersecurity courses, digital forensics, networking, entry-level programming, database operations, systems analysis & design, technology management, machine learning, artificial intelligence, business applications of technology, and web development. Sufficient technical experience in a range of these areas is also necessary to provide hands-on demonstrations and provide meaningful laboratory exercises and instruction to supplement traditional textbook/lecture material for students. The selected candidate will be expected to contribute to the College's mission through high-quality teaching, scholarly research aligned with AACSB expectations, and service to the department, college, university, and community. This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications A Ph.D. in information systems or a closely related discipline by January 2027 for Spring 2027 consideration or August 2027 for Fall 2027. Candidates who are ABD may also be considered if they have a Ph.D. degree attainment date before the start of employment. Demonstrated ability to maintain a program of research output sufficient to meet AACSB scholarly academic (SA) status requirements. Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate the ability to meet annual progress toward scholarly output and tenure-track publication goals consistent with guidance in Longwood University's Faculty Policies & Procedures Manual. Preferred Qualifications Prior college-level teaching and online teaching experience. A commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment, interest in active and collaborative learning and the instructional use of technology, enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment, and a demonstrated commitment to serving diverse populations and perspectives in the classroom. Professional experience in one of the following areas is preferred: cyber/information security, software development, systems analysis, or equivalent technical applications. Industry certifications related to the information systems, technology management, and cybersecurity disciplines.Additional Information:
This position is a full-time, tenure-track, instructional faculty position. The anticipated salary range for this position is $115,000 - $130,000 annually.
