A Criminal Justice Professor teaches foundational criminal justice ideas, truths, and methods to students through a combination of classroom instruction, field experience, and assignments at colleges, trade schools or other institutes. May assist or lead in the creation of the criminal justice curriculum to be taught. In addition to instruction, they may assist or lead in research initiatives relating to their field.
Engages students in the teaching/learning process; works assigned schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Plans and teaches courses that fulfill the current curriculum goals and objectives. Remains current with subject matter and instructional methodology. Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving course goals and objectives. Communicates progress in the course to students in a timely manner. Determines and submits students' grades in accordance with established College policies and procedures. Supports the mission of the program, division, and College. Performs duties as assigned. Work Experience:
Master's Degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement or related field preferred. Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or related field required. Minimum of two years teaching experience required, preferably at the college level. Background in criminal justice field.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to effectively communicate one-on-one, in small groups, and in classroom situations. Proficient in word-processing and presentation software, internet, and e-mail Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of students. Capability to teach in more than one discipline. Demonstrated ability to advise students. Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills. Effective problem-solving skills. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations (as applicable): Ohio Peace Officer Trainer Academy (OPOTA) Instructional Certification required.
