MADERA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CERTIFICATED JOB DESCRIPTION DEAN OF CURRICULUM, INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT

Purpose Statement Provide leadership, expertise and support at the school site level for the full implementation of specific core and intervention content in grades 9-12. Provide on-going, job-embedded training and support for teachers in the school to build their capacity and effectiveness. Provided services will be supplementary to the district's base line program. Works under the direction of the site administration and does not evaluate any staff. This position reports to the site Principal. Specific Responsibilities Provides coaching and modeling for teachers in organizing instruction, lesson design, instructional delivery and assessment related to English language arts, English language development, social studies, science and math. Effective teaching and learning strategies for English Learners, students with disabilities and students with divers learning needs will be a priority. Conducts demonstration lessons, one on one observations, coaching and facilitates group observations to insure that all teachers have been trained to an advanced level of delivery and are using the instructional materials as designed. Provides on-site professional development to ensure that teachers are knowledgeable about core and intervention program components and understand the instructional design of how the program meets the standards. Assists teachers in building an interactive classroom environment focused on the content and instructional strategies embedded in the program. Serves, as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students including English learners, students with disabilities and students with diverse learning needs. Assists teachers with adhering to course content, course guides and pacing guides. Participates in collaborative grade level or department meetings, as assigned, to assist in the analysis and utilization of assessment data to improve student achievement. Prepares forms, records, and reports as directed. Attends meetings and trainings as directed. Maintain professional competence through participation in professional development activities as provided by district, county, state and other consultants. Observes and model instructors, and offers insights for the enhancement of the teaching-learning situation. Assumes responsibility for reviewing and evaluating results of assessment programs, and other evaluative measures used by site and district. Participates with CTE coordinators, business and industry leaders in curriculum and instruction at state, regional, and national levels. Work in conjunction with the secondary district academic coaches (DAC) Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Specific knowledge of:

1. Learning and teaching District adopted curriculum including: Common Core State Standards Curriculum design Effective learning and instructional strategies for English Learners, students with disabilities and students with diverse learning needs. Assessments to guide instruction Classroom routines Design and present professional development activities Practices that promote increased student-learning outcomes Implementation of the Local Control and Accountability Plan and/or Site Plan 2. Laws, policies and procedures applicable to assignments. 3. Contribute to the successful fulfillment of the District Mission Demonstrates Ability to: 1. Model and co-teach for implementation of exemplary instructional practices in the following areas: Develop, organize and present professional development activities Work collaboratively with others Conduct one-on-one instructional coaching with teacher Conduct group observations Help other teachers learn Apply new knowledge Enhance teachers' abilities to provide instruction that increases student-learning outcomes 2. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others to implement the components of the District Instructional Action Plan. 3. Motivate and lead others. 4. Document systems and processes. 5. Provide effective instructional leadership to improve student-learning outcomes. 6. Interpret, apply and explain District, school and program policies, procedures and regulations. 7. Ability to integrate technology into lesson plans and delivery. 8. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 9. Plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines. 10. Analyze situations accurately and recommend effective courses of action. 11. Maintain paperwork consistently, appropriately and in a timely manner. 12. Maintain the confidentiality of teachers. 13. Exemplify collegial behavior and a commitment to teamwork.

Education:

Valid California Teaching Credential for Administrative Services. Authorization to teach English Learners. Advanced course work and/or training in core and intervention curriculum and instructional strategies specific to the duties of the job (i.e. Reading Masters, Math Masters, or Certified Trainer, AB 466/SB472 (training and follow-up).

Experience:

Five years of successful teaching experience. High level of understanding of the assigned core and intervention subject matter. Experience working with groups in curriculum development or related fields. Experience in planning and delivering professional development activities. Experience in site/teacher leadership roles (i.e. grade/department lead, MIC support provider, leadership teams, etc.)
