As one of the very few community-owned and operated media entities serving the region, NorCal offers PBS, NPR and Independent Public Broadcasting programming. NorCal is a place of creativity, fresh ideas, and new voices, with a team of passionate individuals fueled by our core mission to deliver honest and trusted content. NorCal is currently seeking a Community Education & Engagement Coordinator. The Community Education & Engagement Coordinator will work to strengthen the Northern California Public Media (NorCal) community, will be an innovative creator of community education and engagement events, and will work across departments to more completely align the stories we share with input from the community we serve. Projects will include but are not limited to: community conversations and surveys, outreach activities and events, online and multimedia formats. Bilingual Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists the development of community education and engagement initiatives; supports, promotes, and expands community alliances that enhance and broaden the station's role in the region. Works closely with various station departments to implement initiatives and events that build awareness, interaction and educational opportunities within our broadcast reach throughout the greater Bay Area. Develops and maintains strong relationships with local educators, schools, and educational organizations, serving as a key point of contact and identifying opportunities for collaboration, outreach, programming, and community engagement. Plans community meetings and events that are conducive to engagement around the issues of education, culture, and civic engagement, from formal presentations to informal events at libraries, partner organizations and other venues to increase interaction between NorCal, the community, and other community partners. Coordinates educational events, programs, and community resources that support NorCal's mission, connecting audiences with meaningful learning opportunities and developing accessible educational materials that encourage curiosity, participation, and lifelong learning. Is available some weekends and evenings to represent NorCal Public Media at community events. Maintains related administrative databases and ongoing correspondence for projects and promotion of initiatives. Captures and creates engaging photo and video content at events and community activities for social media, promotional materials, partner communications, and organizational archives. Documents and shares community engagement activities, including organizing post-event files, photos, videos, and other materials; distribute relevant information to partners and maintain organized archives for future use. Researches issues relevant to the region and assists with research and writing of grants to support projects. Represents NorCal's brand, mission, vision, and values consistently across community events and communications, with a focus on education, lifelong learning, and meaningful community engagement.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

Bachelor's degree in communications, community development, media arts, or equivalent combination of education, training, and a minimum of 2 years of related experience Outstanding verbal communication and writing skills Exceptional time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks Strong skills in platforms used to build community engagement and facilitate conversations and events A strong knowledge of engagement tools, including constructing questionnaires and research tools A commitment to community building and experience working with groups from diverse communities Excellent inter-group, communication, organizational, and analytical skills Ability to multi-task and oversee various projects simultaneously Experience researching and writing grant applications Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm Valid drivers license and means of transportation
PREFERRED SKILLS
Familiarity with public media programming, mission, values, and digital tools Proficiency with Outlook, Google Workspace, email marketing platforms, Excel, and digital marketing platforms Experience planning and facilitating community events, forums, workshops, and other engagement opportunities
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical requirements listed are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions and key responsibilities of this position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner at all times. Frequent operation of computer and other office equipment, the ability to sit at a workstation for long periods of time, stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, lift, twist, pull, push, carry, grasp, reach and stoop as need, and to occasionally lift and carry items up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The employee works in an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work. Occasional travel may be required.
WHAT WE OFFER
This is a full-time, non-exempt position, with a base pay of $24/hour. NorCal offers exceptional benefits - medical, dental, vision, 403B, paid vacation, holidays, and floating holidays. This is an on-site role that requires the Community Education & Engagement Coordinator to work at our Rohnert Park, California office.
