This role exists to develop and build the capacity of staff of varying levels of experience to effectively teach students with diverse and complex learning needs. This individual bridges the gap between knowing what to teach and actually teaching it well, ensuring that curriculum, instructional methods, and classroom environments translate into meaningful student progress. Core Outcomes Success in this role means: Staff demonstrate strong, effective instructional practice, not just compliance with plans Students show measurable progress through well-executed, repeated, and intentional teaching Staff can independently design, implement, and adapt instruction The organization develops a pipeline of skilled educators through the Apprenticeship Academy model Key Responsibilities and Demonstrated Competencies 1. Instructional Coaching & Staff Development Provide ongoing, embedded coaching to teachers and instructional staff Support staff in translating goals into effective, repeated, and meaningful instruction (not just presentation of material) Deliver feedback through in-class support (when appropriate), observation + reflection cycles, and structured coaching conversations Design and facilitate practice-based trainings and workshops where staff rehearse instructional techniques Build staff confidence and competence through a supportive, non-evaluative presence 2. Curriculum Expertise & Implementation Serve as the organization's expert in ULS curriculum implementation and TEACCH-informed practices (train-the-trainer level expected) Ensure curriculum is implemented with fidelity and purpose, not just completion Help staff adapt curriculum for varying learner needs, create maintenance tasks and generalization opportunities, and deliver instruction across multiple contexts 3. Instructional Design & Student Learning Systems Coach staff in developing and maintaining high-quality Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) Support staff to break down skills into teachable steps (task analysis), use repetition and varied practice effectively, and embed learning opportunities throughout the day Conduct fidelity checks on instructional delivery, data collection and progress monitoring, and alignment between goals and teaching strategies 4. Classroom Practice & Learning Environment Support development of strong classroom management systems (distinct from but collaborative with behavioral supports) Help staff create environments where instruction is consistent and structured, students can engage meaningfully, and learning is embedded throughout routines 5. Apprenticeship & Pipeline Development Play a central role in the Apprenticeship Academy by training and mentoring emerging educators, modeling high-quality instruction, and building foundational teaching skills in new staff Translate theory into practical, repeatable teaching behaviors 6. Collaboration Partner closely with BCBAs and behavioral staff (integrating instruction + behavior) and program leadership Contribute to a unified instructional model across classrooms
