Temporary Duties and Responsibilities:
Review and update the Hawaii Community College (Hawaii CC) EMT courses to ensure alignment with the Kapiolani EMT Program, to meet the State of Hawaii requirements, and to submit for approval through the College curriculum process. Develop a program and assessment plan (including outcome measures) for EMT, along with developing a recommendation for national accreditation. Collaborate with faculty to create and develop an Advanced Life Support (ALS) course. Develop professional relationships with state and local Emergency Services industry representatives. Collaborate with the Dean of Career and Technical Education to request expansion of the Hawaii CC EMT Program (to include ALS) from the Hawaii State Department of Health. Attend all EMT department and advisory council meetings. Attend State of Hawaii Emergency Medical Services Advisory Committee meetings as appropriate. Collaborate with EMS instructors to create an EMT course schedule, which serves the Manono and Palamanui campuses. Coordinate and lead a working group of College and secondary representatives to develop an Early College program with a start date of Fall 2026 but no later than Fall 2027. This includes holding monthly meetings, taking minutes, developing monthly reports for the CTE Dean, and assisting in developing MOAs with secondary schools and industry contracts for student practicum hours. Prepare materials, budget, and supplies necessary for all EMT courses. Prepare and deliver an annual report by June 30. Develop and submit EMT Perkins proposals. Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's in Health Sciences, Biological Sciences, Nursing or EMS AND current EMT-P certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, and current Hawaii certification as a MICT (or certification in progress); OR Registered Nurse and a current Hawaii State license as an RN; OR Bachelor's in Health Sciences, Biological Sciences, Nursing or EMS AND three (3) years related work experience which should include postsecondary teaching; at least one of the three years must be professional EMS (EMT or MICT) experience; AND current EMT-P certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, and current Hawaii certification as a MICT (or certification in progress); OR Registered Nurse and a current Hawaii State license as an RN; OR Certification as a Paramedic; AND a Baccalaureate degree in any field AND five (5) years related work experience which should include postsecondary teaching; at least 2 of the 5 years must be professional EMS (EMT or MICT) experience AND current EMT-P certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, AND current Hawaii certification as a MICT (or certification in progress); OR Registered Nurse and a current Hawaii State license as an RN; OR Associate Degree in
MICT AND
ten (10) years related work experience which should include postsecondary teaching; at least three (3) of the ten (10) years must be professional EMS (EMT or MICT) experience AND current EMT-P certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, and current Hawaii certification as a MICT (or certification in progress); OR Registered Nurse and a current Hawaii state license as an RN.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience teaching for a community college. Experience in developing curriculum and/or programs. 3. Experience using advanced features of Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and Google Workspace applications. 4. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
