Patient Access Representative | Hilo Benioff Medical Center Admitting Department A Day in the Life of a Patient Access Representative Patient Registration Collect and accurately document patient demographic and insurance information in the EMR system, adhering to policies and regulatory requirements. Obtain required signatures on all pertinent forms and ensure patient identity verification. Discuss payment methods, collect deposits, and issue receipts. Insurance Verification Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, including coordination of benefits, copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. Conduct pre-certifications when required and update patient records for billing accuracy. Payment Processing Collect patient responsibility payments and generate estimates for scheduled services. Work closely with the billing department to resolve financial or collection issues. Inpatient Services Process doctor orders to ensure accurate service entries, coordinate bed assignments, and manage patient transfers or discharges. Update the hospital census database to reflect changes in patient status. Switchboard Operations Answer incoming calls and direct them appropriately. Activate emergency communication protocols and facilitate on-call notifications. Use the overhead paging system to communicate critical information. Administrative Support Proficiently use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate standard office equipment such as printers and fax machines. Adapt to changing priorities and support various operational needs. To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.Education:

2 years of general experience required for all levels (Educational Substitution forGeneral Experience:
bachelor's or associate degree) Additional specialized experience required for the II-IV levels, in addition to the general experience listed above.
