Founded in 2005, Holyoke Community Charter School (HCCS) offers a high-quality public education in grades PreK-8th. The school mission is to promote the joy of learning and to prepare children for success as students, citizens, and workers by providing them with a high-quality public education . Having recently completed a comprehensive strategic and academic plan, HCCS teachers are driven to support diverse learners through a multitude of ways to present content and assess performance. Moreover, HCCS recently completed construction of a new 22,000 sq. ft. wing, adding four new classrooms and a new 16,000 sq. ft. gymnasium. HCCS is raising the bar for what's possible.
Positional Purpose:
The Special Education Academic Coordinator (SEAC) is responsible and accountable for providing instructional and administrative leadership to the Lower School, Upper School and Heads of Department as it relates to special needs students. The SEAC organizes, supervises, and evaluates the utilization of the SABIS® brand, philosophy, systems, policies and procedures are properly adhered to ensure consistency of use and special education compliance. The SEAC provides instructional and administrative leadership to the special education teaching staff, oversees the implementation of curriculum, coordinates exams and monitors academic performance of special needs students. The SEAC works closely with the School Director, the school administration team, and the SABIS® Regional Special Education Coordinator. The SEAC provides contact to parents on academic issues.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Academics:
Reviews pacing charts per subject, per grade level, and modify to meet necessities of special needs students, if required. Conducts a weekly review and approve grade level or subject points/objectives that support the pacing chart. Writes and approves modified exams with accommodations for students with special needs in grades K-8 to access continuous academic progress in all academic disciplines. Reviews and/or modifies final exams for students with special needs for the Terms
I, II, III
in all academic subjects. Revies test results and modify instruction, if necessary and consults with appropriate Heads of Department and/or teachers.
Students:
Reviews new student files for admissions and appropriate placement. Meets with students' families upon request or as needed to discuss the special education program wit the SABIS® philosophy. Interviews/evaluates individual students with placement concerns. Writes student recommendations for student transfers upon request. Plans and leads school events as they pertain to Special Education such as Back-to-School Night, informational sessions for current parents and marketing events for prospective parents.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree Master's degree (Preferred)
Teaching License/Certification Competencies:
Leadership and team management skills; Interpersonal and communication skills; Organizational and self-management skills; Ability to handle multiple responsibilities effectively; Goal oriented; Planning and execution skills; Problem-solving abilities; Dependable and ready to go above and beyond when necessary to achieve goals. Typical hours are 7:45am - 3:20pm, with twice/month Wednesday staff meetings until 4:30pm.
