Rob's Guitar School is looking for an Early Childhood Education Specialist to assist us in our Newton Community Education (NCE) after-school guitar and ukulele classes. This person will assist the students as our teachers teach guitar or ukulele to elementary school students. Knowing how to play guitar or ukulele is not required but is a plus. The ideal candidate will have the following traits/skills:

Child Development Knowledge :

Understanding the developmental milestones, cognitive, social, and emotional needs of young children.

Classroom Management and Organization :

Ability to assist in creating a structured, safe and enjoyable environment. Help facilitate learning while possibly handling multiple tasks simultaneously.

Effective Communication :

Clear, age-appropriate communication with children, paired with the ability to provide consistent updates and collaborate with parents, colleagues, and administrators.

Problem-Solving :

Resourcefulness in finding solutions to behavioral issues, learning challenges, or operational obstacles. Information on Newton Community Education (NCE)

Programs:

The Newton Community Education after-school classes run during the fall, winter, and spring months. The Early Childhood Education Specialist will assist our teachers when there are 5 or more students in a class, though there may be options to teach in smaller classes in special circumstances. All run from 2:45-4pm and may fall on any weekday. The only exception is Wednesday classes, which run from 12:15-1:30pm. (We do add on an extra 15min for the very last class of each season for a show and tell for the parents.) All NCE classes are taught at various elementary schools within the Newton public school system (e.g., Mason-Rice, Bowen, Underwood, Lincoln-Eliot, etc.). Classes are either guitar or ukulele. These are all taught at the beginner level, and students range from grades 2-5. Qualifications The qualified candidate should have one or more of the following:

Experience :

Extensive experience working with young children in a classroom or childcare setting.

Education :

A Bachelor's or Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.

NOTE :

If you are actively enrolled in a college and are receiving training to get your Bachelor's or Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field, this is acceptable.

Certification :

State-specific licensure or certifications (e.g., EEC Certification, ECE Certification, CDA credential).

Additional Requirements:

Positive, upbeat, professional and interacts well with kids ages 6 and up

• Has access to reliable transportation
• Lives in close proximity to the Newton area
• Has at least 2 years' teaching experience (preferred)
• We run a CORI check on all teachers.

Optional:

If you are interested in learning how to play and teach ukulele, we'll show you. It's a very easy instrument to play, especially at the beginner level.
