Pittsburgh, PA; position includes regular travel to schools and community sites Community Kitchen Pittsburgh (CKP) is seeking an engaged, creative, and dependable Community Education & Engagement Coordinator to help grow our community education, outreach, and engagement activities. This is a hands-on, community-facing position that combines cooking and nutrition education, community programming, outreach and recruitment, partnership development, and events . The Coordinator will spend part of their time leading cooking and nutrition classes for youth and adults and the remainder helping CKP build stronger connections with community organizations, prospective program participants, alumni, and the neighborhoods we serve. This position could be a particularly good fit for a student, recent graduate, or early-career professional in public health, nutrition, dietetics, education, culinary arts, community development, food studies, or a related field who is looking for meaningful, hands-on community experience. Primary Responsibilities Community Education & Programming Lead engaging, hands-on cooking and nutrition classes for elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as adult and community audiences. Provide cooking demonstrations and lessons at CKP facilities, schools, and community locations. Use CKP-developed lesson plans and recipes while adapting activities to the age, interests, and needs of participants. Demonstrate basic cooking skills, kitchen safety, food handling, nutrition concepts, and healthy food preparation. Create a positive and welcoming learning environment that encourages participants to cook, taste new foods, ask questions, and participate. Help develop and implement new education and outreach opportunities that complement CKP's programs and mission. Track attendance, participation, and other required program information. Community Engagement & Outreach Build and maintain relationships with schools, nonprofits, neighborhood organizations, and other community partners. Support outreach and recruitment for CKP's culinary training and workforce development programs. Help develop opportunities to keep CKP alumni connected and engaged. Coordinate with partner organizations on education, outreach, and community activities. Maintain accurate community partner and outreach information in CKP's database. Represent CKP at community events, resource fairs, school activities, and other outreach opportunities. Program & Event Coordination Coordinate ingredients, supplies, equipment, and educational materials needed for classes and events. Pick up materials from CKP and transport them to program locations as needed. Set up and clean up teaching and event spaces. Communicate with CKP staff and community partners to ensure programs are organized and prepared. Assist with planning and implementation of CKP events and special programming. Provide feedback and ideas to strengthen CKP's community education and engagement efforts. Scheduled School Programming A key responsibility of this position is leading CKP's scheduled cooking and nutrition programming at one of our school partners. For most programs, the educator must arrive at the school by 4:00 PM for setup. Classes run from 4:15-5:15 PM , followed by cleanup. You must have your own transportation as the bus schedule /system will not work for some locations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities The ideal candidate will: Enjoy working with children, teens, and adults from a variety of backgrounds. Be comfortable leading groups and speaking in front of others. Have an interest in cooking, nutrition, food access, public health, education, or community engagement. Be an excellent written and verbal communicator. Be organized, dependable, and able to manage responsibilities independently. Be comfortable building relationships with community partners and representing CKP in the community. Have strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Be comfortable using basic computer programs and entering program and outreach information into databases. Be willing to learn and able to take an idea or program framework and help turn it into a successful community activity. Have culinary education or relevant cooking experience; preferred but not required . Transportation Requirements Because this position involves regular travel between CKP, schools, and community locations, the Coordinator must have a valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation, and the ability to transport ingredients, supplies, and educational materials to program sites. Mileage for approved work-related travel will be reimbursed in accordance with CKP policy. Required Clearances Because this position works in school classrooms and directly with youth, the following clearances are required as a condition of employment: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background Check Schedule This is a part-time position averaging approximately 20 hours per week . The schedule will vary based on programming and events and will include afternoon and occasional evening hours. Candidates must be able to accommodate the scheduled school programming listed above. Other work hours can be scheduled around programming needs and, where possible, the employee's availability. Compensation $22 per hour , approximately 20 hours per week.
