July Primary Purpose:
Oversee and coordinate all special education functions for districtwide programs and other assigned areas. Ensure the provision quality services for students with disabilities. Maintain monitoring and reporting system to ensure compliance with federal, state and local requirements.
Qualifications:
EducationCertification:
Master's degree or higher Texas Principal or other appropriate Texas certification preferred Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with special education endorsement
Special KnowledgeSkills:
Understanding the educational needs students with disabilities Knowledge special laws and practices Ability to communicate with students with disabilities, their parents, and instructional and administrative personnel Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to speak Spanish desired but not required
Experience:
Five years teaching experience in special education Previous district or campus level special education supervisory experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Management . Coordinate special education services for districtwide programs and other assigned areas in order to meet student needs. . Oversees and coordinate professional development efforts. . Monitors for compliance in accordance with department accountability system. . Communicates with principals and campus staff in a timely fashion regarding student needs. . Submits regular reports to as required Director Special Education. . Appraises assigned special education staff in conjunction with campus principal. . Ensure that student progress is evaluated on a continuous, systematic basis to improve effectiveness and long•term outcomes the special education program. . Facilitate the use technology in the teaching, learning and evaluation process. . Encourage and support the implementation research based curricular, instructional and assessment programs and on-going staff development to improve program effectiveness. Coordinator Special Education . Plan the necessary time, budgetary and material resources to support instructional and professional support staff in accomplishing educational goals. . Serve as resource person for Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committees including staffing's and MDRs. . Promote a positive academic and behavioral learning environment to support diverse needs students with disabilities. . Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds. . Employ effective interpersonal skills. . Maintain and update records with campusstudent caseloads to support the needs the campus and district programming. School Organizational . Assess and respond to needs related to job responsibilities. Improvement . Contribute to the recommendation sound policies directed toward program improvement. . Design feasible projects for implementing innovations. . Obtain and use evaluative findings, including student achievement, discipline, and post•secondary data, to examine special education program effectiveness and promote a continuous improvement process for special education program excellence. . Ensure that curriculum renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs. Personnel Management . Develop research-based staff development andor improvement plans to ensure special education program effectiveness. . Evaluate job performance employees to ensure effectiveness. . Make recommendations relative to personnel hiring, placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal upon request. Administration and Fiscal . Provide recommendations based upon documented program needs. Management . Implement policies established by federal and state law, Sate Board Education rule, Commissioner's Rule, and the local board policy in the area special education. . Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents. Student . Demonstrate support for the district's discipline management program as it affects Management students with disabilities. . Establish and maintain open lines communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, and teachers. Professional Growth and . Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment. Development . Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. School . Articulate the district's mission and goals in the area special education to the Community community and solicit its support in realizing the mission. Coordinator Special Education Relations . Demonstrate awareness district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs. . Demonstrate the use appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement. Other . Perform any other duties assigned by Director. Additional duties assigned during the work-week as may be specified on addendum if applicable.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and provide input on performance evaluations special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff.
