Vice President, Educational Development Position Summary:
The Manager, Educational Development supports the development, production, implementation, and ongoing improvement of PHTA educational programs and resources. The position combines educational program administration with curriculum development, faculty and subject matter expert (SME) engagement, online course production, learning technology, and project management. The Manager works collaboratively with PHTA staff, faculty, SMEs, councils, committees, and workgroups to move educational projects from concept through completion. This includes coordinating project timelines and deliverables; supporting curriculum development and revision; developing learning objectives and assessments; assisting with presentation and online course development; coordinating faculty and SME contributions; and supporting course implementation within PHTA's learning management system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Educational Project Management & Program Development Manage assigned educational-development projects from initiation through completion, including project planning, SME/faculty engagement, content development, review, production, quality assurance, LMS implementation, and launch. Develop and maintain project timelines, milestones, deliverables, documentation, and follow-up activities to ensure projects remain on schedule. Identify project barriers, outstanding decisions, and content needs and proactively coordinate appropriate follow-up.
Curriculum & Instructional Development:
o Work with faculty and SMEs to develop, revise, and organize educational content for online, virtual, and instructor-led programs. o Develop and refine measurable learning objectives, course descriptions, assessment questions, course record sheets, instructional materials, and related documentation. o Assist SMEs in translating technical expertise into clear, organized, learner-focused educational content. o Support the development and revision of certification and traditional education programs in collaboration with technical workgroups and staff.
Online Course Development & Production:
o Support the development and production of on-demand courses for the PHTA Center of Excellence, GENESIS, and other educational initiatives. o Develop, edit, and enhance instructional presentations and other course materials in collaboration with faculty and SMEs. o Support faculty during course-content development and recording, including preparation of materials and coordination of production requirements. o Utilize AI and other educational technologies to support curriculum development, course production, content enhancement, and workflow efficiency. o Apply established quality standards to online educational content before publication.
LMS & Learning Technology Support:
o Collaborate with Educational Development staff on the implementation and maintenance of online courses within PHTA's learning management system. o Learn and effectively utilize PHTA's educational technology platforms, video-hosting systems, AI tools, collaboration platforms, and other software. o Identify opportunities to improve educational-development workflows through technology, automation, and AI.
Faculty, SME & Operational Support:
o Provide administrative and operational support for Educational Development programs, including data and record management, student and member support, faculty/speaker coordination, transcript support, and LMS-related activities. o Support virtual education programs and events as assigned, including occasional evening programming. o Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President, Educational Development.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in education, instructional design, training and development, communications, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience. Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in education, training, curriculum development, instructional design, learning and development, association education, program management, or a related area. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, contributors, and deadlines simultaneously. Ability to develop and/or refine learning objectives, assessments, instructional materials, presentations, and educational content. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and professional communication skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365 applications. Comfort learning and working across multiple technology platforms and software applications. Demonstrated interest in and ability to use artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to support educational development, content production, and workflow efficiency. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a geographically distributed team. Ability to communicate effectively with technical experts and translate complex information into organized, learner-focused educational content. Ability to occasionally work outside normal business hours in support of virtual education programs and events.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience developing online or asynchronous learning. Experience with learning management systems (LMS; Thought Industries). Experience with instructional-design or e-learning authoring tools. Experience supporting certification, credentialing, continuing education, workforce development, or adult-learning programs. Experience working within a trade association, professional society, nonprofit organization, or similar membership-based environment. Experience managing curriculum or educational-program revision projects. Experience with video editing, recording, or multimedia course production. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Adobe InDesign, is a plus. Familiarity with project-management and collaborative-work platforms. Experience using generative AI tools in educational or professional content-development workflows.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to take ownership of an educational project and move it from concept through launch. Ability to build productive working relationships with SMEs who possess deep technical expertise but may have limited experience developing educational content. Ability to ask effective questions, organize complex information, and identify gaps in educational content. Ability to exercise sound judgment, follow through on commitments, and proactively communicate project status and challenges. Strong technology aptitude and willingness to experiment with new tools and workflows. Ability to learn unfamiliar subject matter sufficiently to facilitate curriculum development without needing to serve as the technical expert.
