Our classes are designed for beginners, but our students tend to advance quickly and are eager to take their game to the next level. We're looking for someone who can teach the fundamentals while also introducing stronger players to more advanced strategies, tactics, openings, and game concepts. This is a great opportunity for a working professional, competitive chess player, teacher, coach, or chess enthusiast looking to make some extra money while helping build a fun and welcoming chess community. The Role Classes are structured around four different levels of instruction running simultaneously , so this position requires someone who is comfortable working a room, moving between groups, answering questions, and adjusting instruction based on each student's skill level. You'll be responsible for creating an environment that is both educational and social . Our students want to learn chess, but they also want to meet people, build confidence, and have fun. Responsibilities Lead women's beginner-to-intermediate chess classes on Sundays Teach students across four skill levels simultaneously Explain chess fundamentals, strategies, tactics, openings, and game concepts Provide personalized guidance and feedback as students progress Work the room effectively and keep multiple groups engaged Adapt teaching style and instruction based on individual skill levels Help students build confidence playing over-the-board Create a welcoming, encouraging, and social atmosphere Answer questions and provide additional strategy when students are ready to advance Occasionally teach classes or events in

Preferred:

Previous experience teaching chess Coaching, teaching, tutoring, or other instructional experience Competitive chess experience Experience working with adult learners or group classes Related teaching experience + advanced chess knowledge will be considered in place of formal chess teaching experience.
