Job Description

Active Learning After School Dance Teacher Compensation:
$20-25/hour

Flexible Schedule SUMMARY We are currently hiring for the 2026-2027 school year. Active Learning is seeking energetic and passionate Dance Teachers to support students in grades TK-6 within after school programs. Our teachers create engaging and structured environments where students can express themselves through movement, build confidence, and develop foundational dance skills. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with youth and have a strong interest in dance instruction and choreography. Teachers will guide students through skill development and prepare them for a final performance or showcase. We strongly encourage candidates with backgrounds in dance styles such as hip-hop, jazz, ballet, cultural dance, or contemporary to bring their unique style and creativity into the program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
■ Lead and facilitate dance classes for students in Transitional Kindergarten through 6th grade ■ Teach foundational dance techniques, rhythm, and movement ■ Choreograph routines appropriate for age and skill level ■ Prepare students for a culminating performance or showcase ■ Lead structured rehearsals to ensure students are confident and performance-ready ■ Manage a group of up to 20 students using clear expectations and effective behavior management strategies ■ Create a fun, inclusive, and engaging class environment ■ Adapt choreography and instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners ■ Encourage creativity, confidence, and teamwork among students ■ Build positive relationships with students to support their development ■ Communicate with Program Leads regarding student progress and performance readiness ■ Assist with basic performance coordination (spacing, timing, music cues) ■ Maintain organization of music, lesson plans, and materials ■ Follow all Active Learning and school district policies and procedures
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & REQUIREMENTS
■ Experience in dance instruction, performance, or choreography preferred ■ Experience working with children in a teaching or coaching setting preferred ■ Knowledge of one or more dance styles (hip-hop, jazz, ballet, cultural, contemporary, etc.) ■ Ability to create and teach age-appropriate choreography ■ Strong classroom management and group leadership skills ■ Energetic, motivating, and positive teaching style ■ Strong communication and organizational skills ■ Ability to manage rehearsals and meet performance timelines ■ Reliable, punctual, and consistent in attendance ■ Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Education Requirements:
■ High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred:
■ Background in dance, performing arts, or related field
Required:
■ Must pass a background check ■ TB test clearance (renewed every 4 years)
Pay:
$20.00 - $25.00 per hour
