Part-Time, Hourly Position Summary The Lafayette Family YMCA is seeking an energetic and passionate Dance Instructor to join our team! This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening our community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Dance Instructor creates a positive, welcoming environment where participants of all ages can build confidence, develop dance skills, and have fun while learning. Instructors lead safe, engaging, age-appropriate classes and help inspire a lifelong love of movement. Responsibilities Plan and lead safe, engaging, age-appropriate dance classes. Teach one or more dance styles such as: Ballet Jazz Hip-Hop Contemporary Tap Creative Movement Encourage and support participants as they develop confidence and dance skills. Prepare choreography for classes, showcases, and performances as needed. Foster an inclusive, positive, and welcoming atmosphere for all participants. Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and participants regarding class progress, schedules, and expectations. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe dance studio. Ensure proper use and care of equipment. Follow YMCA policies, procedures, and values. Attend required staff meetings and trainings. Qualifications Must be at least 16 years old . Previous dance teaching or assistant teaching experience preferred. Strong background in one or more dance styles (ballet, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, tap, etc.). Ability to plan and lead structured classes for children, teens, and/or adults. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds. CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, move, and demonstrate dance techniques for extended periods. Ability to project your voice clearly throughout the studio. Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds occasionally. Visual and auditory ability to supervise participants effectively. Comfortable working in a moderately loud environment during classes. Why Join the YMCA?
