Job Description

Director of Specialized Instruction The Director of Specialized Instruction is primarily responsible for developing and fostering the effective implementation of Two Rivers' innovative and equitable elementary and middle school special education program. The Director will collaborate with leaders and teachers to continuously and consistently implement research-based instructional practices and ensure effective implementation of Two Rivers' adopted curricular tools, leading to improved outcomes for all students. The Director of Specialized Instruction is an effective curriculum program manager with deep expertise in delivering inclusive instruction accessible for all students. The Director of Specialized Instruction will report to the Two Rivers Chief Academic Officer and work with school-based administrators and other content directors to help Two Rivers succeed in its mission and champion our network-wide commitment to engaging with and addressing issues of inequity. This is a 12-month position which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Responsibilities Curriculum Implementation Work closely with the Chief Academic Officer, Principals, Assistant Principals, Senior Director of Special Populations, Campus Directors of Special Education, and other content directors to implement and lead the school-wide specialized instruction program Foster network-wide use of high-quality common-core-aligned materials, including unit plans and assessments, in response to student achievement data. Support instructional leaders in utilizing grade-level structures to monitor and use student and teacher data to inform and direct actions Implement weekly coaching and feedback sessions with assigned classroom and assistant teachers to monitor adult practice and student improvement Support school-based leadership, classroom, and assistant teachers with determining responses to student needs within the MTSS model Create a system to evaluate the implementation of MTSS and specialized instruction program Step in, as necessary, during emergency long-term absences for leadership staff Support newly hired classroom and assistant teachers in being successful in their respective roles by providing necessary training relevant to their positions. Assist schools in understanding screening, diagnostic, and progress monitoring of MTSS interventions and student individualized goals. Data Management Monitor student math and ELA data for students in grades 3-8 Work with content directors and school-based leadership teams to create an ongoing system of data analysis, progress monitoring, and action planning Routinely analyze student benchmark and progress monitoring data to support staff in delivering high-quality math, and ELA interventions Teacher Development and Observation Observe instruction across the network to support our leaders in prioritizing the next steps for teachers to implement the math and ELA program at a consistently high level Collaborate with and engage with school-based leadership teams to organize learning walks for staff and leadership teams Work with our school-based leadership teams to provide targeted support for teachers in need Develop schools' ability to evaluate students' development and provide effective interventions, as needed Lead team meetings (eg. common planning, vertical teams, data meetings) to support teachers' ability to plan and deliver data-driven instruction Along with school leadership teams, support teacher leaders in their ability to lead cycles of continuous for their assigned grade band/content area Lead light-moderate coaching cycles as outlined in the Two Rivers Way in Coaching Professional Development Develop and facilitate professional development sessions on curricula and pedagogy for leaders and teachers Participate in national and local educational community discussions and conferences to stay current with educational issues Present at conferences and meetings to establish Two Rivers' voice in education Support school leaders with implementation of new teacher cohort Lead/co-lead teaching fellow cohort Assist school leaders with planning and facilitating professional development Facilitate learning for Two Rivers families regarding our educational model through content-specific nights as directed Other Professional Responsibilities All full-time employees are expected to work a 40-hour work week. 12-month exempt employees must begin their day no later than 9:00 am and must end their day no later than 6:00 pm unless otherwise approved by the direct supervisor as required by the School's operational needs. 12-month employees should operate with a standard schedule that is approved by the direct supervisor and ensures teams meet all operational and coverage needs, which includes events such as after-school events and activities. School-based leadership teams must be present for arrival and dismissal. All non-exempt employees will be required to be provided a non-duty unpaid lunch. Be on time for meetings, duties, and professional development activities. Observe proper decorum, including adherence to dress codes and proper courtesies and respect in all dealings with students, parents, guardians, visitors, and fellow employees. Attend and participate in school events. Check voicemail and email daily and respond promptly to requests from parents, administrators, and colleagues. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Report all suspicion of child abuse or neglect to the Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA) and a school administrator. See the Staff Handbook for additional information. Qualifications Ideal candidates will possess the following qualities/skills: Skills and Characteristics Passionate belief in the Two Rivers mission and educational model Curiosity, thoughtfulness, and a commitment to reflection Demonstrated ability to lead adults by nurturing their growth and investing in their success Proven track record of leading teams to meet extremely high standards for student achievement and success Strong teaching ability and a passion for leading professional development Understanding of organizational growth and development Excellent communication, public relations, presentation, and interpersonal skills Strong organizational skills; extremely careful attention to detail and follow-through Expertise in education from early childhood to middle school Educational Background and Work Experience At least two years of successful experience as a network or district leader At least five years of combined experience as a leader and special education teacher in an urban area with a track record of high student achievement Significant experience planning, facilitating, and leading adult learning A master's degree in a relevant field is highly preferred or ten years of experience in leadership Experience with deeper learning is required, and experience in a project-based learning school or a school in the EL Education network is preferred Two Rivers is an equal opportunity employer.
