Job Description
The Berkshire Waldorf School, nestled in a glorious woodland area in the northeast corridor, has delivered Waldorf education in the region for over five decades. Recently, as experienced in many small independent schools, the challenges of the pandemic, leadership change and pressures from the political and economic realms, have led us to reexamine and recommit to our methodologies and operations. The school has emerged from this period and is now seeking a compassionate, thoughtful and experienced leader to strengthen our school and to meet the needs of the children coming towards us, while also honoring the financial and operational foundations we have identified for long-term sustainability. •The School would like to fill this position for the next academic year; however, if a qualified, talented candidate does not come forward to meet that start date, we are willing to wait. The importance of identifying and hiring well for this key position will be paramount in our process. The start date is secondary. The Berkshire Waldorf School seeks a Pedagogical Director to guide the delivery of Waldorf education with passion, understanding and demonstrated evidence of successful administration. The Pedagogical Director is responsible for sustaining a healthy culture of teaching and learning, and a qualified candidate will embody and promote the principles, values, and practices of Waldorf education. This includes, but is not limited to, a deep anthroposophical understanding of child development as the basis for pedagogical decision-making, as well as the ability to foster and support the collaborative, creative work of a Waldorf faculty. The Pedagogical Director is a strong ambassador for core areas of pedagogical and curricular development, such as developmental responsiveness and diversity and inclusivity. As a key member of School Leadership, the Pedagogical Director brings forth the interests and contributions of the students, families and faculty in organizational planning and decision-making, particularly as they pertain to the learning program. The Pedagogical Director is a supervisor and supportive mentor for the full Faculty. This position reports directly to the Board of Trustees.
