Position Title:
Secondary (6-12) Mathematics/Science Specialist 2026•2027 School Year 1.0 FTE 215 days / 8 hrs per day This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. This is a Continuing Position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide direct support to principals, teachers, and district staff to strengthen mathematics and science instruction and student learning. Collaborate with teachers, content specialists, CTE, and district leaders to ensure alignment of secondary math, science, and STEM curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning across programs. Ensure alignment of secondary science and STEM curriculum and instruction with NGSS standards, state, and district expectations. Support the design and implementation of rigorous, engaging, and equitable math and science instruction using research-based best practices. Ability to create, deliver, and facilitate job-embedded professional learning for teachers, principals, and teams to improve instructional practice and student outcomes in math and science. Build teacher capacity to design, deliver, observe, assess, and refine high-quality math and science instruction and support effective professional learning communities. Collaborate with intervention specialists to design Tier 2 math interventions for teachers to deliver to students requiring additional support beyond core instruction. Partner with student support programs (SpEd, Title, LAP, Multilingual, and Highly Capable) and Instructional Technology to ensure equitable access and support for all learners. Assist staff in implementing equitable and culturally responsive math, science, and STEM teaching practices that promote college and career readiness. Oversee, select, organize, deliver, and maintain math, science, and STEM curriculum resources and instructional materials to ensure alignment, accessibility, and effective implementation. Foster positive, collaborative relationships with students, staff, families, and the community through professionalism, respect, and cultural responsiveness. Promote equity by identifying and addressing opportunity gaps and supporting staff in developing culturally competent, inclusive practices. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Certification Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred. Valid Washington State teaching certificate. Secondary Math Endorsement. Successful completion of a Washington State Patrol background check (employee responsible for cost). Experience & Professional Skills Minimum of five years recent secondary teaching experience; coaching experience preferred. Flexible, professional, and able to actively contribute in a collaborative team environment. Regular and consistent attendance. Demonstrated creativity, innovation, and systems-thinking skills. Commitment to building system capacity, developing leadership, fostering a learning community, and providing excellent customer service. Experience designing and facilitating engaging professional development for staff, parents, and community stakeholders. Demonstrated expertise in secondary mathematics and science instruction, including curriculum alignment, lesson design, differentiation, acceleration strategies, and NGSS standards. Skilled in using best practices, formative and summative assessments, and designing rigorous, engaging learning experiences for students and professional development for adults. Knowledge of instructional technology and ability to integrate it effectively into math and science programs. Strong written and oral communication skills with students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders. Ability to engage with and build positive relationships within a diverse, multicultural, and multi-racial secondary school community.
