Inglewood Unified School District is seeking dynamic, creative, and student-centered Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Facilitators to provide engaging arts learning experiences for students across District schools and programs. VAPA Facilitators may support instruction in Music, Visual Art, Theatre, Dance, or multiple artistic disciplines, depending upon their background, expertise, and the needs of the assignment. Facilitators work collaboratively with school staff to create meaningful learning experiences that promote creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, self-expression, and student voice. Assignments may vary by school site, program, grade level, day of the week, number of hours, and duration. Candidates may therefore be considered for assignments based upon both their qualifications and their stated availability. VAPA Facilitators are at-will, unrepresented hourly employees. Placement on an eligibility or candidate list does not guarantee a specific assignment or minimum number of hours. Candidates will identify the VAPA disciplines in which they possess sufficient knowledge and experience to independently facilitate student learning: Music — including vocal music, instrumental music, general music, music appreciation, composition, production, or related areas. Visual Art — including drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, digital art, design, photography, or related areas. Theatre — including acting, improvisation, storytelling, performance, technical theatre, play development, or related areas. Dance — including creative movement, choreography, performance, culturally responsive dance forms, or related areas. Candidates with experience across multiple disciplines are encouraged to identify each area in which they are qualified to provide instruction. Role Within the District The VAPA Facilitator expands students' access to high-quality arts experiences and supports the District's commitment to developing the whole child. Working within established District and school-site expectations, facilitators create spaces where students can explore, create, perform, problem-solve, collaborate, and develop confidence through the arts. The position also supports interdisciplinary learning by connecting arts experiences to academic content, authentic problems, student interests, culture, community, and real-world application. VAPA Facilitators serve as positive adult models and contribute to school environments in which students feel valued, challenged, supported, and inspired to participate. Education and Experience Any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. Qualifying preparation will typically include education, professional training, artistic practice, instructional experience, or demonstrated professional experience in one or more areas of the visual and performing arts, including Music, Visual Art, Theatre, Dance, or a closely related discipline. Experience working with children or youth in a school, after-school, community arts, recreation, studio, performance, enrichment, or similar educational setting is highly desirable. Knowledge of Principles, practices, techniques, and terminology associated with the candidate's area or areas of VAPA expertise; developmentally appropriate approaches to engaging students in arts learning; methods for planning and facilitating creative, hands-on, and performance-based learning experiences; California Arts Standards and Visual and Performing Arts instructional concepts; 21st-century learning skills, including creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration; project-based learning methodology; interdisciplinary connections between the arts and academic content, including the Common Core State Standards; strategies for engaging students with varying levels of experience and ability; culturally responsive and inclusive instructional practices; positive student engagement and behavior-support strategies; and effective oral and written communication. Ability to Plan and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate visual and/or performing arts learning experiences; demonstrate proficiency in one or more VAPA disciplines; translate artistic knowledge and skills into accessible learning experiences for students; actively engage students in creating, performing, responding, and connecting through the arts; incorporate creativity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and project-based learning into instruction; differentiate activities to meet varying student strengths, needs, interests, and experience levels; create an inclusive environment in which students feel comfortable participating and taking creative risks; establish positive relationships with students and staff; communicate effectively and professionally; work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel; adapt to different school environments, grade levels, schedules, and program needs; manage materials, equipment, and instructional spaces appropriately; exercise sound judgment; work independently within established District expectations; and maintain reliable attendance and punctuality for assigned programs. Licenses and Other Requirements Some assignments may require specialized training, certification, demonstrated artistic proficiency, or other qualifications appropriate to the VAPA discipline or program. Candidates must be able to meet District requirements applicable to employment and working with students, including required background clearance and health requirements. Because assignments may vary in location, schedule, duration, and number of hours, candidates must be able to reliably fulfill the schedule of any assignment they accept. Possession of a valid California driver's license and access to reliable transportation may be required for assignments involving travel between District locations. Desirable Qualifications Formal education or professional training in Music, Visual Art, Theatre, Dance, Arts Education, or a related field; professional or substantial practical experience within an artistic discipline; experience providing arts instruction or enrichment to TK-12 students; experience with project-based and interdisciplinary learning; familiarity with California Arts Standards; and experience working with culturally, linguistically, academically, and developmentally diverse student populations are highly desirable.
