Coach kids in grades K-8 to speak up with confidence. You'll teach Public Speaking, Debate, or both, using our ready-made curriculum, so there's NO lesson planning . Classes are small (maximum 12 students), and the schedule fits around school, grad programs, or another job. Our instructors come from many backgrounds, including: Classroom teachers and tutors Communication Studies and English graduates Theater performers Speech and debate coaches or former competitors If you're comfortable in front of a room and enjoy working with kids, we'll train you on the rest. We've run these programs for over 25 years with more than 50 Bay Area city recreation departments and schools, so classes are steady and well organized. Where and when Classes are in the South Bay (Cupertino or Palo Alto), the East Bay (Milpitas or Fremont), or the Peninsula (San Mateo, Foster City, Burlingame, or Millbrae).
Saturdays:
9:00 AM-12:00 PM (our core need) and 1:00-5:30 PM Weekday afternoons: 4:00-6:15 PM School break camps (Thanksgiving, winter, spring, summer): weekdays, 9:00-11:30 AM and/or 12:30-3:00 PM Hours range from a few classes a week during the school year to up to 30 hours/week during camps.

- 35/hour, plus paid training.
What you'll do Lead fun, structured Public Speaking or Debate classes using our ready-made curriculum. Give each student specific, encouraging feedback during class so they can see themselves improving. Build a classroom where shy kids feel safe speaking up and confident kids learn to listen. Show up reliably. Students and families count on the same instructor each week. You might be a great fit if you have Experience teaching, tutoring, or working with kids (classrooms, camps, after-school programs, substitute teaching), or a background in theater, Communication Studies, speech and debate, mock trial, or Model UN. A knack for explaining things simply and giving feedback that's honest and kind. A bachelor's degree in Communication, English, Education, Theater, Law, or a related field (preferred, not required). Current college juniors, seniors, and grad students are welcome. About us With over 25 years of experience, Communication Academy teaches public speaking, debate, writing, and math to K-8 students across the Bay Area, through our own centers and partnerships with city recreation departments, school districts, and private schools.
