SCHOOL DESIGN OVERVIEW
Mapleton Public Schools is proud to offer a robust and award-winning Performing Arts program to all registered Mapleton students in grades 5-12. These programs include band, choir, and orchestra, with grades 7-12 participating in our Zero-Hour program at either our Skyview Campus or the Mapleton Arts Center (MAC) on the Global Campus. Fifth and sixth grade students are offered band, choir and orchestra as beginning classes in all of our K-6 and K-8 schools during the normal school day. In addition, extra-curricular after-school opportunities include Drama, Color Guard, Mariachi and Jazz Band. These programs emphasize the art of live performance. QUALIFICATIONS
Colorado teaching license with an appropriate drama and theatre arts endorsement preferred
EXPERIENCE
Prior experience directing high school, youth, or community theater productions Familiarity working with teenagers and managing student skill levels ranging from beginners to advanced performers Understanding of vocal mechanics, blocking, stagecraft, and rehearsal schedules Experience working alongside a creative team (such as a vocal director, choreographer, and technical director)
EXPECTATIONS
Running fair, organizing auditions and matching students to appropriate roles Teaching stage blocking, acting techniques, and coordinating scene transitions Collaborating with the choreographer, vocal director, and pit conductor to unify the show's vision Coordinating with the technical director, on sets, lighting, sound, costumes, and props Teaching theater etiquette, basic acting skills, and building student confidence Managing rehearsals efficiently and keeping large groups of students focused Following school safety codes, securing backstage areas, and always ensuring student supervision Managing expenses for licensing rights, scripts, costumes, set pieces, and marketing materials Creating and maintaining a strict, organized calendar from auditions to closing night Keeping school administrators, families, and students updated on logistics Leading ticket sales efforts, program design, and local community outreach Will supervise strike and the load out of the set at the end of the last performance Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners Maintains professional communication and interactions with students, community, and staff Utilize effective practices for community building, including rituals and traditions that build a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment Model, instill and actively participate in building a supportive and positive culture Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously Demonstrates knowledge of national, state, and local drama and theatre arts standards
TRAINING
Mandatory Title IX training is required by the Colorado Department of Education for all public-school employees. Title IX training addresses harassment, discrimination, and bullying. Completion of these mandatory courses helps ensure compliance with state requirements while supporting a culture of safety and belonging across our schools. Two mandatory training courses must be completed within 30 days of the date of hire. These courses must be completed on their own time.
