Arden Cahill Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Speech & Drama Teacher for students in Grades 3-12 to begin as soon as possible. Candidates must have, at minimum, a completed Bachelor's Degree. The ideal candidate will have a passion for theater, public speaking, literature, and the performing arts, along with a working knowledge of the technical aspects of theatrical production. This individual should be able to create an engaging classroom environment where students build confidence, creativity, communication skills, and an appreciation for both performance and the many elements involved in bringing a production to the stage. The Speech & Drama Teacher will provide age-appropriate instruction across multiple grade levels, introducing students to the many elements of speech, drama, and theater. Coursework may include poetry and prose interpretation, monologues, public speaking, acting and performance techniques, character development, theater history, stage terminology, technical theater, stagecraft, lighting, sound, and other aspects of theatrical production and dramatic presentation. A major component of this position is the production of five student plays throughout the school year. The Speech & Drama Teacher will direct and coordinate these productions while collaborating with Arden Cahill Academy's Music and Art teachers to incorporate music, scenery, costumes, and other creative and technical elements.

Responsibilities include:

Teach Speech & Drama classes to students in Grades 3-12. Develop engaging, age-appropriate lessons in acting, public speaking, poetry, prose, monologues, theater history, technical theater, and related topics. Help students develop confidence, stage presence, vocal projection, expression, memorization, and effective communication skills. Introduce students to theatrical terminology, traditions, genres, techniques, stagecraft, and both the performance and technical aspects of theater. Select, organize, rehearse, and direct five student plays throughout the school year. Coordinate auditions, casting, rehearsals, blocking, and other aspects of student productions. Oversee the technical aspects of theatrical productions, including lighting, sound, microphones, cues, stage setup, and other production needs. Possess the technical knowledge necessary to operate and troubleshoot basic theatrical lighting and sound equipment and coordinate these elements during rehearsals and live performances. Teach and involve students, when age-appropriate, in behind-the-scenes elements of theater, including lighting, sound, stage management, set work, and other technical roles. Collaborate closely with the Music and Art teachers in planning and producing performances. Encourage participation from students of varying experience levels and abilities while creating a positive and supportive performance environment. Maintain an organized classroom and rehearsal environment and communicate effectively with students, families, faculty, and administration regarding performances and rehearsals. Participate as an active and collaborative member of the Arden Cahill Academy faculty.

Ideal candidates will possess:

A completed Bachelor's Degree is required. Experience or education in theater, drama, speech, performing arts, education, technical theater, or a related field. Experience working with children and adolescents. Strong communication, organizational, and classroom-management skills. Experience directing theatrical productions or working in educational theater is highly preferred. Working knowledge and hands-on experience with theatrical lighting, sound systems, microphones, stage equipment, and other technical production elements. The ability to manage both the artistic and technical components of a theatrical production from rehearsal through performance. The ability to work collaboratively with other faculty members on student productions. Creativity, enthusiasm, patience, and the ability to help students feel comfortable performing in front of others. Pay:

$30,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
