Magnet Elementary Theatre Teacher Key Requirements and Qualifications Certification:
Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate in Theatre, Drama, Performing Arts, or another appropriate certification area in accordance with Louisiana Department of Education guidelines (Bulletin 746).
Education:
Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Theatre, Drama, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Arts Education, or a related field.
Experience:
Prior experience teaching theatre or drama or working professionally in theatre is preferred. Elementary-level teaching experience or experience working with children is highly desirable.
Content Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of theatre, acting, improvisation, stagecraft, dramatic literature, performance, and age-appropriate theatre instruction. Knowledge of arts integration and the ability to support a specialized magnet arts curriculum is preferred.
Instructional Skills:
Ability to plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate theatre instruction that promotes creativity, communication, collaboration, self-expression, confidence, and critical thinking.
Classroom Management:
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to establish a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment for elementary students.
Performance & Production:
Ability to direct and produce student performances, including plays, showcases, musicals, and other school or community productions. Knowledge of auditioning, rehearsal techniques, stage direction, and basic production practices is preferred.
Communication & Collaboration:
Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, families, teachers, administrators, and other arts professionals. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary magnet school team.
Student Development:
Ability to recognize and develop individual student talents while providing theatre instruction that is accessible and appropriate for students with varying levels of experience.
Professional Responsibilities:
Willingness to participate in professional development, school performances, productions, school activities, and other responsibilities associated with a specialized magnet arts program.
