Hopkinton Center for the Arts Grades 4-9 Program Position Overview The Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and organized Film Making Instructor to lead our summer filmmaking camp for students in grades 4-9. This instructor will guide a small group of budding filmmakers through every stage of the production process—from concept development and storyboarding to directing, acting, filming, and introductory editing. This position is ideal for an educator or media professional who enjoys empowering young people to collaborate, imagine boldly, and bring their stories to life on screen. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Program Delivery Lead students through the filmmaking process, including story development, script creation, storyboarding, directing, acting, filming, and basic editing concepts. Facilitate a collaborative environment where each student can take on meaningful roles—both on-camera and behind the scenes. Introduce students to professional camcorders, green screen techniques, and basic video production equipment. Teach returning students more advanced or expanded filmmaking skills as appropriate. Production Management Oversee filming sessions both on campus and at approved on-location outdoor or indoor sites. Demonstrate the editing process and involve students in creative decision-making when time allows. Ensure that all equipment is used safely and appropriately, following HCA guidelines. Program Coordination Plan daily lessons aligned with the camp curriculum and adjust instruction based on group needs and ages. Maintain a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment. Provide the final edited project(s) to HCA by the end of the summer for distribution to families.
Qualifications:
Qualifications Experience in filmmaking, film production, media arts, or a related field. Previous teaching or youth-program experience strongly preferred. Proficiency with camera equipment, basic lighting, and introductory video editing (Adobe Premiere, iMovie, DaVinci Resolve, or similar). Ability to explain technical concepts in fun, accessible, age-appropriate ways. Strong organizational skills and an enthusiasm for fostering teamwork and creativity. Comfort working with students in grades 4-9 with varying experience levels. Ability to supervise on-location shoots safely and effectively. Schedule & Compensation Seasonal, part-time position within HCA's Summer Program calendar. Ideally we are looking for a candidate to commit to 3 to 4 weeks of instruction sometime between June 28-August 20, 2027. Typically, Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm Compensation commensurate with experience.
