Instructor/Professor of Practice The Schoolof Music in the College of Music and Performing Arts at Belmont University isseeking applications for a non-tenure track Instructor/Professor of Practice ofMusical Theatre, beginning August 1, 2027. Theprimary responsibilities for this position include collaborating (as MusicDirector) in preparing acohesive, artistic and stylistic vision for mainstage musical productions, including accompanying allrehearsals, teaching harmonies, vocal arrangements, ensemble numbers, assistthe creative team during auditions and callbacks to assess the vocalcapabilities and ranges of student performers, conduct and/or play piano forthe pit orchestra, oversee key milestones like sitzprobe andliaison with sound designer and sound engineer to create micplots and notate scripts. Additional responsibilities teaching anapplied voice studio for musical theatre students. Other courses andresponsibilities may be included based on candidate's background and area ofexpertise. An annual teaching load would include a combination of appliedlessons and other coursework as needed to total a 24-hour teaching workload.
Additional primary responsibilities include academic advising, maintainingscholarly/creative endeavors, and department, college, and university service.
Candidates will be engaging teacher-artists with expertise in current practicein pedagogical principles, performance practice, and current best practice inthe field. Amasters degree in voice, musical theatre, or related field is required; previousteaching at the collegiate level is preferred.
